It is beginning to appear like civil center-right Republicans may indeed have a horse in the 2012 race -- Jon Huntsman. The more I learn about him, the more I get my hopes up that center-righters may finally find a champion in American politics. The former ambassador to China and governor of Utah brings a soft-spoken, moderate approach to politics. While the rest of the Republicans continue to disappoint (Palin is nuts, Pawlenty isn't worldly enough, Gingrich flamed out ... ), I am growing increasingly interested in Huntsman.
Phil Elliott of the AP has been covering Huntsman (along with all the other candidates and potential candidates).....
Huntsman is trying to portray himself as what an "honest broker" willing to say what others will not. For instance:

I don't agree with everything Huntsman says. However, Huntsman scores mega points in my book because of his civility. In fact, he appears to be positioning himself to run as the civility candidate. Having served the Obama administration as ambassador, he has shown class by not blasting the president while on the campaign trail. While other candidates appear to be trying really hard (Romney's attempts at being folksy are so entertaining to watch) or are pandering to the more populist, provincial wing of the party (Gingrich, Pawlenty and of course, Palin are all guilty of this), Huntsman appears relaxed. He says he just wants to start a dialogue. Every candidate says that, but he looks like he really means it.
Huntsman currently lags in the polls. But I do hope his candidacy will help give shape to a center-right movement in Republican Party that mirrors the direction Britain's Conservative Party has taken.

He sure outshines the current crop of candidates in the Republican circus.

But, but.....he’s so reasonable and wants to start a dialogue; he brings a soft-spoken, moderate approach to politics, unlike the laughable “provincial” (locals with restricted interests and outlooks, lacking urban polish and refinement) wing of the party....
What’s not to love in a GOP candidate like Huntsman?
Too funny.
HUNTSMAN-CRIST 2012 ...the perfect RINO ticket!
I’ll get drunk and vote for Rick Perry before I pull the lever for Huntsman. No way no how.
I agree. If the choice is to take on Obama and present a strong case and lose or to be soft-spoken and nice and lose there is no doubt the better choice is to at least have your views presented clearly and strongly. It is sad to have your side lose after not even having shown up on the field. If I’m going down I want to go down in flames as they say.
There is no difference between the tactics you so ably describe and the left and their “race card”.

Yesterday near the end of his interview with Ann Coulter, Rush said something subtle I think. He asked her what makes people so easy to control. She cited some things and then added that some people are obsessed with what others think of them. Rush then commented that if we could just get rid of that characteristic we could come up with a good nominee. Coulter laughed.
From what I have heard Coulter is not a fan of Palin as the nominee and I think Rush might have been havin some fun here. Maybe I am just reading into it.
IMHO, “civility” is defined by the political class as not telling the truth about your opponent.
Or even worse.

The interesting thing about this is that I keep seeing Ambassador Huntsman in print and opinion pieces, and none are recaps of anything said on TV.
I am told by the print and opinion pieces he’s one to watch for, but he doesn’t do anything in the line of fire so to speak.
I have yet to see a headline that recaps a wowed crowd, an opinion that is his, or defense of an executive/legislative action.
Just inane headlines like this.
Ann might be a bit jealous of the attention Sarah is getting. imho
Great point.
The phantom “GOP” candidate.
The msm wants to make Huntsman the bar for GOP “center-right.”
I don’t think so..
Amazing. A man who would deny his own faith is no damn good.
Appears what we got here is a trust-fund chickenshit. Sink the bastard.
