Herman Cain: Homosexuality is a sin and a choice (Will this statement help or hurt his chances?)
CBS News ^ | 06/09/2011 | Brian Montopoli

Posted on 06/09/2011 1:19:09 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told Hotsheet Wednesday that homosexuality is a sin and a choice.

"I believe homosexuality is a sin because I'm a Bible-believing Christian, I believe it's a sin," he said. "But I know that some people make that choice. That's their choice."

Cain was asked: "So you believe it's a choice?"

"I believe it is a choice," he responded.

It’s illogical that one child would have to choose while another does not. Ask a homosexual. Ask a lot of homosexuals. I have. I was a dance instructor during my 20’s. They will tell you they didn’t choose. They will ask you who in their right mind would willingly choose a life of prejudice? It’s very clear if you do your own research that homosexuality is not a choice. It’s hardwired. As for those that have been ‘fixed’, well, brainwashing can ‘fix’ anything.

Exactly, his orientation is hardwired, just like everyone’s is hardwired.

Of course. And this wonderful element, especially in the service, will be trampled with the sensitivity training sessions about to descend on all the troops.

It’s illogical that one child would have to choose while another does not.

Not if one was molested an other the wasn't.

In fact, in identical twins, one twin is straight and one twin homosexual in about 50% of the cases. That is proof homosexuality isn't genetic in at least 50% of the cases.

They will ask you who in their right mind would willingly choose a life of prejudice?

Would you make the same point about pedophiles?

That premise doesn't prove homosexuality to be genetic or unchangeable.

There isn't a shred of proof homosexuality is hardwired anymore than there is proof pedophilia or desire to have sex with animals is.

You're spewing leftist propaganda.

No, I understand. I also understand that orientation is hardwired. Having an urge to play a game with someone of the same sex and choosing a life of prejudice are two very different things. Ask homosexuals. They will tell you the same thing. They did not choose. It’s not an urge. It’s hardwired.

PS: The ‘maybe you’re a liberal’ jab won’t work on me. I’m logical, not liberal. The idea that sexual orientation is a choice is illogical.

The idea of choosing sexual orientation is absurd.

Please. So one can be genetically predestined to jam their sausage into another man's bung hole? That is the very definition of absurd.

One chooses to commit sodomy the same as one chooses to pick their nose. Or are you telling me that nose-picking is genetically pre-programed as well?

One may not choose to be sexually confused, but that is a different issue entirely from being "gay".

Thank you - That’s a logical answer. If you were wired differently Allissa’s hair would elicit envy, not desire.

There’s a lot of evidence that choice is not “hard wired” - on anything - including sexuality - at least not 100%. But I am not here to argue that.

At any rate, we’re in a political forum and talking about politics - which has nothing to do with urges but does have to do with actions - and actions are a choice, period. In that regard, the question itself is a red herring because a President is not in charge of orientation but he or she can impact actions.

It’s hardwired.

No definitive evidence of that. Twinning studies refute the notion of hardwiring be exclusively determinative of homosexuality.

If it was genetic, it would have been bred out millions of years ago, since they don't procreate.

excellent point !

If I were HC I would say something like “while it may not be clear where same sex attractions come from, it is always a personal choice where you put your tongue or penis.

I refuse to buy the lie that men have no choice on whether to have anonymous sex night after night.

The size of the gay population is irrelevant. The fact is that such blanket statements cost millions of independent votes. Cain has shed far too many millions of votes this month. I was hoping he'd be a part of the primary debates for a while, but now I doubt he lasts through the summer. Adding to his list of negatives: Extremist on abortion, health concerns, 2nd Amendment gaffe, zero political experience or victories, and now shedding millions of voters for not taking an egalitarian stance on homosexuality. A simple response of "what consenting adults do in the privacy of their homes is not the business of presidents or presidential candidates" is simple, proper, true, and doesn't lose millions of potential votes.

Sadly, Cain is now out early rather than late. He would have been a great secondary character in the debates, and would have been a top-notch VP pick... but not anymore.

Wow—no one says this is an easy subject, but look what you’re saying: “Ask a homosexual . . .” Is a homosexual the most reliable source? Of course he/she’d wish to mitigate guilt (their own or what they perceive society has imposed on them) with a gene-displacement. But that’s not the whole problem. Another face of this is whether or not we should be labeling someone who’s merely “effeminate” as a homosexual. (Of course, out-of-the-closet homos want to blur this distinction because it ups their own numbers while dooming innocents to a choice not easily revoked.) Just as tomboys more often than not turn into heterosexual women, male apron-string holders can turn into heterosexual men. The term “homosexual” can be applied if and only if the defining act has been (and continues to be) fulfilled. Which would mean that choice is definitely a factor. It doesn’t happen by accident. The “brainwashing” comes first from the political homos—who would love to have us believe that there’s no male counterpart for frigidity, no particular desire for sex, no belief in the virtue of celibacy.

Having an urge to play a game with someone of the same sex and choosing a life of prejudice are two very different things.

So, how does that logic work for you when you apply it to rapists, thieves, bullies, extortionists and murderers! Your logic that people would not choose to be disliked due to their actions is demonstrably idiotic!

You know what, I'm sooo glad to find a candidate who isn't afraid to tell the truth, even when it's not PC. I have nothing against gay people, but Herman is absolutely right.

What's more, what good has all this go along to get along crap gotten us? The drive bys will hate us anyway, and all this Rino crap has done is help put a POS Marxist in the White House who, if GOD forbid gets a 2nd term, will no doubt complete his mission of destroying the fabric of this once great country.

Molested? Oh my.
You just put everything in one big bowl.

I hear your message. You're making assumptions from the bubble of your own experience. I understand. We all do that in some area.

How does one straight twin and one gay twin ‘prove’ anything?
What do pedophiles have to do with homosexuality?
When did you ‘decide’ you were straight?

And, just as an aside. Sexuality shouldn't be a partisan issue. It's a button pushed by party leaders, both left and right, but those that make it partisan are disingenuous.

I’ve counseled many homosexuals who say: “I can remember having same sex attractions in Elementary School”. What do you say to that?

Sexual attractions?

I'd say they're full of it.
