Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told Hotsheet Wednesday that homosexuality is a sin and a choice.
"I believe homosexuality is a sin because I'm a Bible-believing Christian, I believe it's a sin," he said. "But I know that some people make that choice. That's their choice."
Cain was asked: "So you believe it's a choice?"
"I believe it is a choice," he responded.

What precipitated his decision? Well the first thing that comes to mind is hardware. Beyond that common sense.

But, Im a Ronald Reagan-style Conservative and Ive counseled many homosexuals who say: I can remember having same sex attractions in Elementary School. What do you say to that? Were you molested as a child?
To: flyingtabby
nowhere else in the animal kingdom is there gay behavior
You may want to read up on some types of monkeys. They stick it whenever and where ever they can.

The idea of choosing sexual orientation is absurd. What is absurd is to assume any deviant sexual behavior is genetically caused rather than environmentally caused.
There are plenty of former homosexuals that have had their natural heterosexuality restored after some sort of psychological trauma that perverted.

Soooo, people that already dislike him will now hate him?

Cain’s response was too weak. Most Republicans agree with them.
He should go farther.
A War on Gay perhaps? Cain will dedicate Federal Money to Find The Cure.
It’s a disease, an epidemic, and the Federal Government should do something to make sure that we don’t go extinct.
Rick Santorum has no other reason for running except to say things like that. Why not Cain as well?
Gay and Transsexual are mental illnesses, and we should be finding the cure.
I’ve heard that men become transsexual when possessed by a female demon. If those men get exorcisms, they could be cured.
Republicans know it’s a choice, Cain isn’t saying anything new. Someone will get Social Conservatives votes by being hardcore on this one.
To: PoloSec
That is not a high bar.
Most Americans agree and certainly Republicans do.
Cain declined to talk about treatment for their mental illness.
Maybe Santorum can.
To: Mr. K
Now if they could just find that pesky gay gene, you would have justification for trying to normalize deviant behavior. Twins would always be gay or straight, not different as they usually are.
Both men and women in prison often engage in homosexual behavior, whether willingly or not. Women often use the quote Gay for the stay.

speaking purely philosophically, you cant 100% make that assumption because no man is attracted to all women and no woman to all men - so right there you have the start of the breakdown of your equation.
Where did I say that 1 man is attracted to ALL women or vice versa? In your examples, the common denominator is that a man was attracted to a woman, whether it be short hair or blond hair or athletic shape or buxom, etc.
We do have the choice of the act itself. I am just saying that in SOME men and in SOME women, that choice may be extremely hard due to intense urges. And the start of those urges begins in the brain.

“Same-sex attraction,” even to a Freudian, doesn’t mean *attracted sexually*. It’s just as easily defined as hero-worship, cameraderie, idolizing a sports-figure. Of course Babe Ruth and Sgt. York and Mr. Chips attracted same-sex worshippers of ALL ages! It doesn’t mean those worshippers were homosexual. Is a man’s love of Christ considered homosexual?

And we agree, and since this is a political forum and politics has to do with ACTS and NOT urges - the choice to act or not to act is the ONLY thing that is relevant — which was my only point.

Who cares? The queers may be 1.5% of the population.....
3% supposedly. But I am just told that certain types of monkeys do it with whatever, whereever, whenever. And who knows - they may be getting the vote by 2012............

It could be caused by chemicals as well. Psychological trauma, or too much soy in the diet.
Whatever it is, we need to find a cure for it.

I think it’s sybaritis, a disease enabled by the free-love (and free-everything-else) movement of the 60s. It’s giving in to absolutely every inhibition, engaging every taboo—without consequence. Because, as we all know, sin no longer exists.

I can understand that! I love everyone of the Marines with whom I went to combat - we went through hell together! But, you know what, I never thought about having sex with them!

Simply put, it will hurt him with the media/academia complex and help him pretty much everywhere else, including with Blacks, Hispanics, and blue-collar/red-neck Whites.
That means if he can get by the Republican primary, he's well positioned to use the issue to wedge a lot of regular Democrat votes to his side in the general election.
