Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain told Hotsheet Wednesday that homosexuality is a sin and a choice.
"I believe homosexuality is a sin because I'm a Bible-believing Christian, I believe it's a sin," he said. "But I know that some people make that choice. That's their choice."
Cain was asked: "So you believe it's a choice?"
"I believe it is a choice," he responded.

You’re done because you can’t defend POV, which is typical of homosexual apologists.
There are two types of people you cannot debate. Those that rely on facts, and those that rely on faith. Only those with experience can make an argument worth this much effort, and neither of us has that in this area.
And that's why I'm done.
As for the original thread that started all this:
Will Herman Cain's statement hurt his chances?
No. Herman Cain's future will not be changed by this statement.
Again, there is not any proof or credible evidence homosexuality is genetic. There dozens showing an environmental cause to homosexuality and thousands of former homosexuals that can attest to that fact.
This, unlike anything you have presented, is called evidence to back up one's position:
The Archives of Sexual Behavior reports: "One of the most salient findings of this study is that 46 percent of homosexual men and 22 percent of homosexual women reported having been molested by a person of the same gender. This contrasts to only 7 percent of heterosexual men and 1 percent of heterosexual women reporting having been molested by a person of the same gender."
--Tomeo, M., Templer, D., Anderson, S., Kotler, D., "Comparative Data of Childhood and Adolescence Molestation in Heterosexual and Homosexual Persons." Archives of Sexual Behavior Vol. 30(3), pp. 535-541, 2001. A review (Holmes and Slap, 1998) of the research on the molestation of boys, published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), showed that adolescent boys who were abused by men were up to 7 times more likely to identify themselves as homosexual or bisexual.
Quoting the study:
"Abused [male] adolescents, particularly those victimized by males, were up to 7 times more likely to self-identify as gay or bisexual than peers who had not been abused."
In 1995, Dr. Thomas Schmidt, author of Straight and Narrow, cited two different studies about high rates of sexual abuse in homosexual and bisexual men. He writes:
"Nevertheless, it is disturbing to find that although under 4 percent of boys are molested by men, a recent major study found that the rate of childhood molestation by men among homosexual or bisexual men was nearly ten times that (35 percent). It is also notable that 75 percent of homosexual men report their first homosexual experience prior to the age of sixteen, as compared to 22 percent of heterosexual men reporting their first heterosexual experience."
Dr. Thomas Schmidt, Straight and Narrow? (Downers Grove, Illinois: InterVarsity Press, 1995) p. 148, see also 114-115; the reference to 4% comes from a study by J. M. Siegal, et al., the Prevalence of Childhood Sexual Assault, American Journal of Epidemiology 126 (December, 1986): 1141-1153. The numbers on homosexual abuse come from L.S. Doll, et all, Self-Reported Childhood and Adolescent Sexual Abuse Among Adult Homosexual and Bisexual Men, Child Abuse and Neglect 16, (1992), p. 855-64
Good for Herman Cain, he doesn’t give a politicians answer (as usual), he gives HIS belief. I believe most people are desperate for men of character to lead again. The ones who are wishy washy on social issues are usually the same on fiscal issues.

And in a sense they didn't "choose", since their attitude probably was formed at a young age. If you had followed up your question with a question about their first sexual experience, odds are you would have found that most if not all were molested as young boys by an older teen or an adult.
My mom is a professional dancer (contemporary, studied with Graham, Humphrey, Weidman and Cunningham) so I grew up around lots of homosexual guys. The seduction of young boys is very much part of the culture, and the "literature" (if you can call it that) is full of 'coming of age stories' that reinforce that. If I had $5 for every smooth-faced young thing I saw on the arm of an aging gray-haired queen, I could retire tomorrow.
He blew it.
I agree with him, but unfortunately too many do not.
RE: He blew it.
How then should he responded such that he would not have given the impression that it was “blown”?
“Whats the alternative to choicegenes?”
Nope, environment during early childhood.
Ok, so you believe that gay people choose to be gay people. I take no issue with anyone espousing that belief, it’s a free country. I will simply ask of you the same question;
At what age did you decide to be straight?
RE: At what age did you decide to be straight?
At what age do people decide to be pedophiles?
No, I was never molested as a child nor am I homosexual.
“RE: At what age did you decide to be straight?”
You didn’t, I didn’t and neither did any other straight person.
“At what age do people decide to be pedophiles?”
Again, choice is not involved. They DO act (as do gays) upon their sick urges but gays, like pedos, do not “choose” to be attracted to same sex any more than you or I “choose” to be attracted to the opposite sex. I think it has almost everything to do with early childhood environment rather than choice or genetics.

I am attracted to many women even after marriage, but I choose not to act on my attraction.
I have spoken to ex-gays who WERE ( past tense ) attracted to men of the same sex but are no longer attracted to them.
Some of them I met through this organization —
All of them to a person tell me CHOICE on whether to act or not to act IS involved.
I think you ought to rethink your ideas.
Actually I don’t need to rethink anything. You stated what I was trying very inartfully to state myself.
I believe a gay person has had that kind of attraction from early childhood. I further believe that attraction is NOT a choice. The only choice part comes in when they choose to act on their desires. However, if they chose to never act upon their urges, it wouldn’t make them any less gay, it would just make them celibate.
um, why do we ignore that it’s an either/or for him. He is saying that it is either genetic or a choice. It’s not genetic, but does he deny that people can be born predisposed?
You asked lots of gays? That’s the best way to establish an opinion - ask the most biased group on the subject!
You might want to re-think your “research” methods. I mean, do you also perform research for the global warming studies?
There are plenty folks in the population who will not vote for him because of this basic misunderstanding.

Well, I’ve spoken to members of the ex-gay groups who have told me that they are NOW after undergoing a spiritual transformation NO LONGER ATTRACTED to people of the same sex.
Also, I’ve also spoken to ex-gays who tell me that they WERE NOT attracted to people of the same sex sometime in their early lives UNTIL some incident occurred in their lives such that they were slowly INFLUENCED.
They tell me that it is possible to be INFLUENCED into a lifestyle.
One person I spoke to was a boxer who only loved women. He got involved in some illegal activity that caused him to be jailed for 5 years ( he was out after 4 for good behavior ). He told me that he became influenced into the gay lifestyle while in prison.
It took him years to get out of that attraction, but after being spiritually transformed, the same sex attraction is gone.
Unless these people are lying, I have little reason to disbelieve them.
So, based on these testimonies, I still believe you ought to rethink your theory.
Absolutely help, at least with me and my family.
