WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama plans to create a special advisory council to recommend ways to boost the economic outlook and quality of life for the estimated 60 million people who live in rural areas of the U.S., a White House official said.
Obama was expected to sign an executive order Thursday establishing the White House Rural Council and naming Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, of Iowa, to be its chairman.

I still have the shirt I made to wear in the fall of 2008. Guess it's time to dig it out again.
I like that, I’ll be using it. ;>)
“The Shootist” has some of the best movie quotes ever. Worth watching just to hear them.
Collectivization?
Thanks, I’ll see if I can rent it. I’ve seen it but it’s been years. I love anything with John Wayne.
BTW... I also like your James Howell quote very much. ;>)
Stalinist five year plan.
I’ll betcha a whole bunch of those $50,000 Wannabe Black Farmers can’t wait to get in on this.
cripplecreek, that is beautiful.
So, if we ever head your way, do you have room for me to park my Airstream near the water? ;>)
Seriously, that looks very peaceful.
What happened to the boondoggle that is,or was, the Appalachian Regional commission?
Lots of water in Michigan. Its why the green weenies are trying to drive us out.
How much is THIS new government program going to cost the taxpayer (or more correctly, the taxpayer’s descendents)?
Just in time for reelection.
He must have conveniently discovered that 99% of rural America lives in a food desert—that is, a mile or more from a supermarket selling fresh fruits and vegetables. (The horror!)
I live in rural GA. I was driving the other day with my 14 yr. old son and his friend. At a stop light the car in front of us had an Obama sticker on the back and an Oregon license plate. Out of the back I hear, “Boy, that guy must be lost! You don’t drive with an Obama sticker around here.”
Just about everyone around here has fruits and veggies right out their backdoor.
They’ll look for ways to apply Section 8 rent money to urban disfunctionals in order to send them to rural areas, to spread the multi-kulti joy around.
My Tivo grabbed “The Shootist” from AMC the other day. Like you, I hadn’t watched it in many years. I like Wayne a lot and particularly like great westerns and the closing of the frontier. It seems like shortly after that when many of our national problems began.
Dems pretending interest in the rural areas? They’re clueless. A couple years ago some lib — a Code Pink spokesidiot, I think — was on a rant talking to Laura Ingraham. Laura asked her something about “the heartland of America”. Spokesidiot asks, “What’s ‘the heartland’?”
Thank God! We redneck bitter clingers are finally saved!
ALLELUIA!!!
