Romney: 'If You Want to Learn More About My Church, Talk to My Church'

In an interview with CNN's Piers Morgan, the second part of which aired tonight on the network, presidential candidate Mitt Romney pushed back against the host's questions about how his Mormon faith might influence his policy should he win the White House in 2012.
Asked whether it's actually possible to separate his faith from his job as president should he be elected, Romney responded, "Absolutely. You don't begin to apply doctrines of a religion to the responsibility of guiding a nation or guiding a state."
Romney explained that he opposes abortion rights and that he is in favor of gay rights but believes that marriage should be a union between a man and a woman.

"I'm not a spokesman for my church. And one thing I'm not going to do in running for president is become a spokesman for my church or apply a religious test that is simply forbidden by the constitution, I'm not going there," Romney said. "If you want to learn about my church, talk to my church."

Morgan joked that at least the couple's Mormon faith eliminates the risk of scandal during their quest for the White House.

Mittster, I already know about your “church”, so that saves me some time. I also know about you, so just go away, please. The only difference between you and Obama is pigmentation.

With all that spinning I am surprised he didn’t vomit.
Glad he is telling people to investigate mormonISM, when they find out the truth they will flee from it.
Romney is a liberal, that is the bottom line.

not a bad answer, actually....and I am not in any way for Romney. It is just another shameless media attack to go after the guy’s church. The same media ignored the Marxist Black Liberation Theory during the last campaign.

I’ve noticed that Mitt in collaberation with the media is trying to completely re-invent himself...sounds very much like Bill Clinton to me! While he’s about it, he’s doing everything, again with the media complicity to finish what he started in ‘08...destroy Palin. Anyone know if Rollins has a history with some of Mitt’s minions from ‘08?

The “church” is a fraud, but its members actually have far more credibility and integrity than Romney. Romney’s real faith is in liberalism and state supremacy. Romney is Mormon like Ted Kennedy was Catholic, or Nixon was Quaker, or Weiner is observant, or Bill Clinton is Baptist, or . . .

You’re missing the point.
Romney is trying to divert attention away from his problem with the issues by putting the spotlight on his religion.
As long as the talk is about religion, nobody mentions RomneyCare, Global Warming, or flip-flops.

So what is he hiding? Why would you run from your beliefs? Sounds to me like he is trying to keep the press from EVER asking about what he believes. Wow.
To: greyfoxx39
Careful what you ask for Mittens. Your church has a wacky set of doctrines that don’t set well with some people. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.....

Good point. If he acts like his religion is the issue people have with him, then he can don the mantle of victim. Sounds like something Mitt would do.

So I heard about the magic underwear and I bought a pair.
I’ve got them on right now and nothings happening.I’m not feeling the magic! Heck, I’ve had these things on all week and it’s upsetting my wife.
Look, I’m 62 years old, I don’t have all day, so when are they going to work?
Oh, and there’s no warnings on the package.. once they do start to work, who do I call after 4 hours.
Romney should find another hobby.

“Romney explained that he opposes abortion rights and that he is in favor of gay rights but believes that marriage should be a union between a man and a woman.”
So if it weren’t for his religous beliefs - where does he get THESE ideas from.
It is a sad state of affairs when someones’ core beliefs would not influence how they would govern. And I think they would be lieing anyway. I mean, look at the muslim we have in office now and how it influences his decisions.

Does he think both of Piers Morgans listeners will change their mind and vote for him?No, but he is playing the "mormon persecution" card wherever he thinks it will provide a sound bite for other sources.
The mormon church has hundreds of thousands of members spreading the word via the internet and the "social network". Most people have no idea of the massive propaganda program going on.
LDS, of course, is short for the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. The LDS church is making a concerted effort to dominate the Internet search engines. As the LDS Church knows, there is a lot of critical material out there. So, Mormon missionaries, Mormon colleges, Mormon blogs, etc. are being urged to write as much as they can on the Internet so that terms such as LDS, Mormon, Mormonism, Joseph Smith, etc. when searched on, will list websites favorable to Mormonism. In other words, they're trying to flood the Internet with pro-Mormon information. Of course, the problem with this is that the truth will not be told.
