Romney to Tea Party movement: No third party bids!
CNN ^ | 03/9/2010 | By: CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney has a message to Tea Party candidates nationwide: If you lose your Republican primary bids, stay on the sidelines.

The former Massachusetts governor on Monday warned the grassroots movement not to mount third party efforts in general elections, which he said would siphon votes from Republican nominees.

"If there is a conservative candidate that runs in the general election, then obviously, divide and fail is the result," Romney said in an interview with the conservative Web site Newsmax. "Hopefully Tea Party candidates will run in respective primaries and they will either win or lose. And if they win, they will go into the general. If they lose, they won't, and they will get behind the more conservative of the two finalists."

Romney explained that "dividing our conservative effort in the general elections" would "basically hand the country to Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, and that would be very sad indeed."

either I get my way or help reelect Obama

Romney learnt that from his Daddy, George Romney

When George only got 40 votes to Barry Goldwaters 800 at the GOP convention, George stomped out of the convention with young Mitty in tow and went and helped Johnson and got his friends to help johnsonn too

after the disasterous election Goldwaters good friend, Ronald Reagan had some tough words to say about the “moderate” George Romney and his cohorts

George Romney hated Reagan and Goldwater as Mitty later hated Reagan and Bush

The acorn doesnt fall far from the tree

We've come to a time when we have to decide whether we are conservatives or Republicans, as the two obviously are not the same thing. A Romney nomination will bring this to a head and he will cause the Republican party to go the way of the Whigs.

2012 will shape up as a battle between the Republican Establishment (Romney) and the Tea Party insurgents (Palin). Although there are other candidates tossing their hats in, the race is really between those two. Expect a lot of Dems to register Repub so they can vote against Sarah in the primary.

So what does that have to do with either supporting Romney or Obama in a general election?

I don't doubt one word of what you say and there is NO way I am supporting Romney at the caucus. I'm just saying that just in case, I support Romney over Obama.

I might do the same thing. But I absolutly am not going to announce it in advance. In fact, I may claim the opposite as the last thing I want to occur is for a Rino voter, lacking principles and claiming only traditional party affiliation, to believe that the old-school guy will carry the general so he has no reason to consider a bold, new, conservative candidate.

I want him worried and in worrying to consider the direction the vast prinicipled conservative midland is headed and join us.

“The Romney candidacy goes far beyond being unpalatable, or a bad match, or too moderate, to be our preferred candidate, Romney is a candidate that we must choose to fight even into the general election.”

Beautifully stated.

Laura probably really hates me now but there were a lot of conservatives who fell for him in 2008 even though his record in MA should’ve been well known.

I can understand that point of view but I also want anyone even thinking about a "third party" candidacy that they will get no support from me. I will not do ANYTHING to allow Obama to get reelected and anyone even giving hints about a possible "third party" candidacy should be discouraged in every way possible.

Trump started this "third party" talk. That told me he'd rather see Obama reelected than the Republican party's nominee, if he can't have it. Anyone running as a "third party" who cares more about their own ego than their country.

Two things that scare me about Romney: (1)His MA healthcare and (2)his MA gun laws.

I suspect that those who initially opposed Bush and then backed him in the general election, and then opposed McCain and said they would never back him but ended up backing him in the general election will end up backing Romney if he wins the Republican nomination.

I suspect you do not know what you're talking about. Yeah, I've been had a few times. Makes me feel cheap. Won't happen again.

From now on, for the rest of my life, I have made myself a promise to vote only for those who I believe represent me and what I consider to be the interests of the United States of America.

Maybe you should consider growing a set. I'd twitter you a pic of mine, just so you'd have some idea what a real set looks like, but I don't want to end up having to explain that.

Well, you’ll have to do it somewhere else. If Romney is the nominee, this pro-life CONSERVATIVE site will be fighting him tooth and nail with a SECOND party pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty candidate!! RINOs be DAMNED!!

Romney’s positions are identical to his partner in crime, Ted Kennedy. Together they RAPED Massachusetts! And Romney still brags about it TODAY!!

With Romney at the helm, there’s no difference between the Republicans and Democrats.

Rebellion is brewing!! We need a second party!!

I will not do ANYTHING to allow Obama to get reelected
___________________________________________________

Then dont vote for Romney in the primary

Barry will be all oer Mitty in the debates

Mitty’s beloved “faith” will torpedo him for a start

even without Mittys religion, the debates will be a rerun of the 1994 Romney/Kennedy US Senate debates

The time to fight Romney tooth and nail is BEFORE the nominee is chosen. I join you in that fight.

“The only people I’ve even seen a hint about a “third party” are Trump and Palin and shame on anyone who boosts Obama’s chances.”

Palin said a third party would spontaneously emerge if the GOP continued its ineffective, not-quite-as-liberal ways.

She was and is right.

Let the chips fall where they may, and damnation to the voodoo Republican pukes. Each and every black hearted, lying, gutless, backstabbing, globalist, statist damned one of them.

Then dont vote for Romney in the primary

I absolutely will NOT be supporting Romney in the caucus and I've said that many times. I don't want him any more than anyone else but he's still better than Obama.

Is that what you said when the GOP establishment came out against the GOP primary winners that they found too conservative in 2010?

For many of us 2010 was a great victory, but we also had the breath knocked out of us to learn that rinos will work against the Republican nominee if needed to keep conservatism from returning in America, it changed our thinking, and we realized that the greater struggle right now, is for the future of conservatism and the Republican party itself.

Obama is worse than Romney. At lease we have a fighting chance with Romney where we know exactly what Obama is trying to do to the country.

The country will go down on Obama’s watch or Romney’s watch, but neither will get my vote. When the dust settles, the GOP will be history. Bring on the third party candidate. I am done with this kind of GOP-same-as-Dem garbage!
