Ever been annoyed by a loud-talking patron at a film? Had that nail-biting darkened hallway scene ruined by someone turning on their phone to send a text? Well, one Texas theater has your back.

Alamo Drafthouse, a local chain of dine-and-screen movie theaters in Austin, Texas, has long waged a war against impolite moviegoers. And the latest customer to object to their firm rules against talking and texting during an evening out has become the unwitting star of a PSA released by the company on Monday...

As long as phone is not making noises, what exactly is wrong with texting in a movie theater? Just how is it distracting to someone else?

To be fair, why can’t there be texting phones which are quiet and dim enough to be undetectable to a fellow movie patron who is focused on watching the SCREEN and not the AUDIENCE? Many of them go clickclickclick boobala-boobala-boobala and have screens that dazzle neighbors in a dark room, but there is no engineering reason a phone must be that way.

How about I shine a flash light in your face the next time you try to watch a movie and we'll see how annoying it is?

Exactly.

If it’s that important to text someone in the middle of a movie, why are you in the movie theater in the first place?

Texting during a movie is one of my biggest pet peeves with the movie theater experience.

I wonder how many times a day while driving the little cow gives the finger to other drivers that have the audacity to be on HER road?

The light emanating from the screen of the phone is generally bright enough to distract one from watching the screen and draw the eye towards the new light source. This detracts from the enjoyment of some people. In some areas it is considered extremely rude. In Japan and Korea they have cell phone blockers installed in movie theaters to stop such activity. Think about it... to some people (myself included,) it is the ultimate in rude, self centered behavior.

I will not go to the movies. Period
Haven’t seen a movie in a theater in over 10 years.

There are infinite ways people can be @ssholes in movie theaters and I’ve encountered most all of them.

Not worth it.

The glow is very distracting in a dark theater.

If there were a phone that didn’t glow as you texted, it might be a different story, but I haven’t see one that doesn’t. If it didn’t, I wonder if you’d be able to read the text in the first place.

Me too! ... There are an infinite number of ways to entertain oneself; I choose not to let a 'Movie Theater' be one of them.

Glowing letters instead of a glowing screen would be good in places where you don't want a blaze of light. It would lengthen battery life, too.

She meant mag lighted states of America. Staring into the light in darkened theaters has left her confused.
