Navy relieves No. 2 officer on aircraft carrier

– Mon Jun 6, 4:03 pm ET

NORFOLK, Va. – The Navy says the second in command of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower has been relieved of his command following an investigation into an improper relationship.

Capt. Robert Gamberg was removed from the post by Rear Adm. Ted Branch on Monday. In an administrative proceeding known as an Admiral's Mast, Gamberg was cited for conduct unbecoming an officer and for failure to obey an order or regulation.

Note : The “improper relationshipee", has not been mentioned nor relieved of duty ... this is what happens when females are introduced into a shipboard culture... a ruined carrier of an otherwise good officer.. "the flesh is weak"

Four ways to lose your job in the Navy

1. Screwing your subordinates

2. Running a ship aground

3. Losing classified material

4. Screwing your subordinates. (just in case you weren't listening the first time)

There are some other ways to lose your job that aren't fair. Telling a Congressman that one of his constituents, despite being a girl, isn't good enough to pilot a Naval Aircraft is one.

Didn’t anyone tell him the X on a flattop doesn’t get to park the submarine?

>>> this is what happens when females are introduced into a shipboard culture.

Where do you get that this was a “female in the shipboard culture”? In similar prior stories they were never shy about remarking the relationship was within the chain of command. But reading this story they are silent on the party of the second part.

Since the carrier is in port for maintenance, for all I can see this could just as easily be a carhop at the local A&W.

Or, another male seaman.

If they don’t want to mention what gender, it is possibly because it comes right on the tail of suspending “Don’t ask, don’t tell”.

This could be the beginning of a big slide in discipline in the services.

The emphasis is on the “big”.

I'm in Kandahar, and yes, I do see a difference compared compared to when I served.

The Marines, however, seem to have remained the same.

I work with inactive (not former) and active Marines and former Army.

When I was in the Coast Guard, 1970-1975, it was still “Old Guard”. There was a 2nd class Boatswain's Mate who entered service in 1940.

When I became Senior Seaman on my buoy tender, I knocked a few heads around to get things done. This meant I had a few Captain's mast's for my actions. However, the same Captain approved my entry into Radioman “A” School.

I knew he had to give me punishment, along with the one of whom I knocked their heads. The Captain knew he had to give out the punishment.

I have to assume he was pleased with the results though.

Better story at link below. The improper relationship “did not involve a member of the Navy...” I tend to agree with you about females on ships, but that must not have been the case here.

Gamberg’s inappropriate relationship did not involve a member of the Navy, but he declined to provide further details.

My guess is that he was busted for having an affair with a female naval person. Fraternizing with the troops is a no no.......
