House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.
I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthonys wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents, Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.
I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.
Israel added: Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future .
To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosis request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.
The calls by Pelosi and Israel for an ethics investigation dramatically raise the political stakes for Weiner. While he stated repeatedly during an emotional press conference on Monday that he had broken no laws nor violated House ethics rules during his interaction with the women, a probe by the House Ethics Committee could find differently.
And it also could provide Pelosi and other Democratic leaders with political cover to call on Weiner to step down. So far, none of his Democratic colleagues have called on him to give up the seat that he first won in 1998.
I am deeply regretting what I have done, and I am not resigning, the New York Democrat told reporters on Monday afternoon. I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused Huma, my wife, and my family.
Maybe Weiner will call for a Pelosi ethics inquiry.
“I did not have text with this woman!”
She was making a speech today to some constituents and she made the implication that the GOP leadership had not learned their lesson a few years ago when they lost control of the House over a similar incident. I guess she claims that if she was still in control there would have been no "WeinerGate".
I’m hoping he pissed her off. And it’s not nice to piss off Mother Nancy. If he doesn’t resign I look for criminal charges to be filed. There is proof he used the congressional phone to call a woman and have phone sex.
Oh great! If those b*stards still allowed that miserable thief, crook, con-man and tax cheat Charles Rangel to remain, what will they do to a Weiner weiner?
So Pelosi is calling for a Weiner probe. Interesting.
He's definitely put on some theatrical rants in the past. I didn't get to see him today as I'm at my son's place, and he doesn't have cable TV. I've at least been able to follow his press conference on FR from my laptop.
Yep...the gays on Nancy's staff pushed her to create a gay scandal so that San Francisco (Gay Capital of America) could take over the House.
Liberals...power mongers all.
She’s only doing this so she and her fellow dems can refuse to comment because it’s under investigation.
Nazi Pelousi is moving to protect America’s socialist party - nothing more, nothing less. Damage control, lest she and her commie cohorts be painted with the same brush.
Lol,
I called both districts. They both took my complaint.
Exactly. Given that any action or inaction will be spun, I kind of like the idea of being called "soft on misconduct" for refusing when by doing so the Rats are admitting the misconduct of one of their own. Their fondest hope is to have someone else clean up their mess so they can second guess how it's done. I'm in favor of just letting them twist in the wind on this one.
It appears that Pelosi doesn’t like Weiner.
