Nancy Pelosi calls for Anthony Weiner ethics inquiry
Politico ^ | June 6, 2011 | John Bresnahan

Posted on 06/06/2011 3:26:01 PM PDT by Second Amendment First

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.

“I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.

“I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.”

Israel added: “Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future .

“To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosi’s request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.”

The calls by Pelosi and Israel for an ethics investigation dramatically raise the political stakes for Weiner. While he stated repeatedly during an emotional press conference on Monday that he had broken no laws nor violated House ethics rules during his interaction with the women, a probe by the House Ethics Committee could find differently.

And it also could provide Pelosi and other Democratic leaders with political cover to call on Weiner to step down. So far, none of his Democratic colleagues have called on him to give up the seat that he first won in 1998.

“I am deeply regretting what I have done, and I am not resigning,” the New York Democrat told reporters on Monday afternoon. “I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused Huma, my wife, and my family.”

The Repub in NYS (26th Dist) who bared his chest resigned. It sounds like Weiner has been up to much more....

If they were grooming him for NYC mayor, then governor, they might want to see how much internal damage has been done.

Look at Spitzer.....and Bubba....and Barney....

>He’ll be re-elected even after lying about this issue.<

.
That is not Weiner’s fault, but the fault of his amoral constituents.

Realistically, there is a balance of power; in the case of the Ethics Committee, the chair still wields a certain amount of clout. Of course the ongoing joke at the Ethics Committee is Linda Sanchez’ presence on the panel.

Exactly. She’s trying to get the Republican led ethics committee to investigate him so she can start the old “Republicans hate sex” routine again. Her action today reminds me of the stunt Rangel pulled during the Bush administration, where he introduced a bill to bring back the draft, then campaigned against “those who were trying to bring back the draft”, pointing toward the Republicans. Not one MSM reporter ever looked at who the author of the bill he was complaining about was.

Nancy Pelosi calls for Anthony Weiner ethics inquiry

Shouldn't this be: "Nancy Calls for Weiner Probe"?

This is just a sideshow and Boehner should bring forth an expulsion motion under Article I, Section 5. No RAT except maybe tax cheat Charlie would dare vote to keep Weiner in his seat.

Interesting challenge for Hillary ... she stood by her man when he was disgraced, will Huma also stand by her weiner or make Hillary look bad by comparison. Look for her to keep him but demand he resign and go into rehab.

Ethics investigations mean nothing if you are a dem. What happened to Maxine Waters or how about the slap on the wrist that tax cheat Wrangle got. Means nothing, all for show.

Yeah...I guess you are right. DemoKrats have no ethics to start with. They are intellectually dishonest every day of their lives so I guess it’s OK to do what they do and do what Weiner did because they are DemoKrats.

What a stinking mixed up crazy country we live in. I find little Tony’s antics just too funny for him though. Watching him spew and spit his rants about this and that and now whenever his pathetic little weiner face shows up on TeeVee as a spokesman everyone will be laughing at him.

What’s even more pathetic is that the GOP and RINOs don’t have a clue how to properly use this against either Weiner or the Rats. Boehner should be out there DEMANDING Weiner resign by the end of the day...but no...

Ya know, I feel sad for her. She’s a vet and a single mom. She did some volunteer work for the Dems and twitted Weiner because she was ostensibly impressed by his stand on an issue. But he took advantage of her for sexual reasons. She probably was sharp enough to realize nothing would come of it. I mean, he wasn’t gonna leave his wife for her, but I think she somehow felt validated as a human being because a big time New York Congressman paid attention to her. And he used that to draw her in and convince her to send some risque photos.

And the Republicans can refuse to play.
