How could I forget Obama’s weird, neutered voice? Is English this guy’s first language?

Am I the only one who could care less if Sarah was right or wrong about Paul Revere? Jeez, Louise, you Sarah-haters need to get over how many angels dance on the head of a pin.

You know what? That Obama quote has been misstated from day one. He didn’t actually say there were 57 states. He said he’s been to 57 states, with one left to go, excluding Alaska and Hawaii. By my math, Obama believes there are 60 States not 57.

This is correct, RT. Just listen to the quote, he thinks there are 60. Everyone saying 57 all the time has always bugged me.

Look up psychological repression - we forget that which bothers us greatly :) According to another poster today, no - which according to them is one reason he is so disturbing to listen to. I don’t actually know but it sounds right to me.

Am I the only one who could care less if Sarah was right or wrong about Paul Revere? Jeez, Louise, you Sarah-haters need to get over how many angels dance on the head of a pin.

I know what’s in Sarah’s heart and that’s good enough for me. Half this stuff she ends up being right about in the end anyway - like being able to see Russia from Alaska - turns out that you can!

I now see her quote was he “warned” the British in a defiant way not to mess with us. Accurate, and not at all the way I first heard it, as if she had said his ride was to warn the British.

The way this was said doesn’t rise to the level of a gaffe, even if Revere hadn’t done any “warning” of the British at all.

But self hating republicans will keep worrying while a leftist fool sits in the White House, one who has contempt for the Founders.

The British were going to Concord to seize a cache of guns and ammunition. Paul Revere was taken by the British during his ride. Under questioning he warned the British not to try to take our guns because they would meet armed resistance. During his ride church bells pealed to alert the local populace. Everything she said in her statement was historically correct.

I have watched that tape. She responds like a kid who hasn’t done the reading. I’ve read the links.

I understand that there are many, many Freepers for whom Sarah can do no wrong. She never utters a wrong statement, or makes a misstep. As soon as she does say or do something that might be questionable, her supporters immediately present copious rationale to explain that she was completely correct.

I was partially raised in Boston, and have walked the Freedom Trail many times. How Revere and his two wives had seventeen children in that one big room always astounded me.

But Revere and Dawes did NOT ride to warn “the British”. He rode to warn the colonists, specifically Adams and Hancock. I believe she led off with a misstatement, and tried to salvage it later in the statement. I do not agree that she can do no wrong.

When in doubt, use the "Obama Defense", i.e. Palin may make gaffes but Obama makes worse gaffes.

Guess you know more about it than Revere himself who reported having been stopped by the British, and that he warned them not to try to take the weapons cache at Lexington because they would meet armed resistance.

Come now, that is actually semantics which doesn’t hold up in the light of its context. Sarah is using the term “The British” as Longfellow did - to indicate the Tories and their Regular Army. She contrasts the British to “us.” The British coming to take our guns...”

Sarah obviously meant “The British [Monarchists]” as opposed to “us, [the colonial revolutionaries]. Revere was never intending to warn the other side.

Her syntax often gets jumbled and fractured. She’s prone to run-on sentences, often with unconnected clauses. That’s part of what people like about her: they can see her brain working as she speaks.

But it does mean that she can fall into some verbal potholes now and again. Dubya used to do it, as well.

To: Craftmore; heysean
I wish at times like this she would just say that she misspoke. .... heysean

why?are you truly unaware that paul revere did in fact warn the british that the colonists were ready to fight after he was captured?read your history before you say palin mispoke. .... Craftmore

Before you criticize heysean for supposedly not knowing history, maybe we should first hear what Palin actually said.

Here is the exact Palin quote on video:

"He who warned, uh, the British that they weren’t gonna be takin’ away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells, and um, makin' sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be sure and we were going to be free, and we were going to be armed." .... Sarah Palin

There are several elements in this quote:

1) The British were warned by Revere that the American colonists meant business. (True)

2) This was accomplished by "ringing bells". (Huh?)

3) This was accomplished by "warning shots". (Huh?)

Remember the days, long, long ago, when even the elementary school kids that went to public school could tell you about Paul Revere and silent LANTERNS ...... "One if by land. Two if by sea."

The last thing that the colonists wanted was church bells and "warning shots" being heard, in the middle of the night, from miles away, tipping off the British that the Americans were waiting for them.

We can safely assume that the British used "enhanced interrogation methods" before Paul Revere spilled the beans and then deliberately exaggerated the number of colonists that were waiting for the British. The ideal outcome would have been to blindside the British.

Any way you slice it, Sarah Palin massacred the historical facts.

Instead of warning the British of American determination to fight during an interrogation after capture, Palin's version of history has Paul Revere warning the British of American determination to fight by ringing bells and firing shots ...... essentially trash-talking to the British:

BANG! BANG! "That's what you'll get from us, redcoats!" BANG! BANG!

CLANG! CLANG! "Here we are! You wanna piece of us! Come and get it, redcoats!" CLANG! CLANG!

Nothing in her statement alludes to Revere's capture and subsequent interrogation. According to Palin's version, Revere warned the British of American intentions to fight by "ringing bells" and "firing warning shots".

Did she "misspeak"?

I think that heysean is being charitable. "Misspeaking" implies that you knew the correct answer but your tongue betrayed you while speaking.

I believe that Sarah Palin simply does not read very much until she has no other choice. She probably read about the details of Paul Revere the week before, read that he was a brass bell-maker, read something about an Old North Church, read something about Revere's capture then, a week later, the historical facts were completely scrambled in her mind: Paul Revere warned the British about the American willingness to fight by ringing bells at them.

To: worst-case scenario

In this case the “copious rationale” is the facts of history. I am astounded that you’d weigh the strict parsing and phrasing of an impromptu response in a unscripted and highly informal moment so heavily. The truth is she got the facts right. ALL that she said was a historical fact.

You have to infer inferences unspoken, or to assume she meant to say what you, in your make-the-worst of her framing, would have had her to mean. That’s a bit of intellectual rape, isn’t it?—If I may make the worst case scenario of it, as you would make of her remarks—for you are forcing yourself upon her and would have your own way with her.

You prove most of the people correct on this thread by your own statement! You have walked the Freedom Trail many, many times so, of course, you have all the answers. How many times has Sarah walked it? Is this the first? The only way to really settle this is for you guys to go up to Alaska and start answering questions about that! Let’s see how many questions you get right.

Sarah is no history expert; there’s not one person on this thread who believes that. She is a married woman who has raised 5 kids while running Alaska, working in a private business, and being a vice presidential candidate. When has this middle-aged woman the time to remember each and every detail about Paul Revere’s ride? Like the msm, you are being harsh, judgmental, and picky beyond belief.

You don’t like her; fine. Don’t vote for her. But this constant denegration makes you look petty and small. I’m embarrassed for you.

Thanks, kristinn. I just saw the Wallace teaser about the upcoming interview. This is the most complimentary I have ever heard Wallace sound about Governor Palin. I’m so excited to see this now (24 minutes and counting!). Are you going to have a LIVE thread for the interview? Hope so.

Its pretty obvious that the british seemed to have an idea of what was up and Revere simply warned them that it was too late to stop the gathering of the militia.

Where are you guys coming from? Did Bill Kristol send out an alarm?

How old are you? Do you remember when Reagan would give his press conferences and we would all hold our breathe because he would make a gaffe or misstatement that needed to be corrected the next day? If you don’t, I certainly do! And yet he is now considered one of our great presidents.

One thing Sarah does - and the elites cannot stand it - is speak very quickly and impulsively and with great heart. She doesn’t do slow, pontifical Charles Krauthammer supercilous snark. And that really bugs some people. I, for one, welcome it. She’s a real woman - not a fake, feminist hag and that seems to really get under the skin of some guys.

1.  When the Democrats took over Congress 4 years ago the unemployment rate was 4.6% it's now 9.6%.  A lot of the increase has come during the past two years, under the presidency of Obama.

2.  When the Democrats took over Congress 4 years ago the deficit was $169 Billion it's now $1.6 Trillion. Most of the increase in deficit spending has come during the past two years, under the presidency of Obama.

But according to some, the people apparently are surely more concerned with such weighty stuff as "off the cuff" statements by Palin or the way her voice sounds than in such "trivia" as people losing their jobs by the millions or the government piling debt onto more debt that is leading to economic collapse of the Republic.

So John and Mary are sitting at their dining table in November 2012, discussing who they might vote for in the upcoming election.

One says: "well, our economy is in bad shape and our personal situation is worse than it's ever been.  I think we should vote Obama out."

The other says: "yes, but what about how Palin got it wrong about Paul Revere?  And, I can't stand her voice.  I guess I have no choice but to vote for Obama again".
