Alabama Passes Mandatory E-Verify & Immigration Enforcement Bill
Friday, June 3, 2011, 1:25 PM EDT
An Alabama House and Senate conference committee agreed on a new bill, which both chambers have already passed, that requires the use of E-Verify by all businesses in the state and includes several immigration enforcement provisions. Should Gov. Robert Bentley sign the bill into law, it would become one of the largest state crackdowns on illegal immigration in the country.
The bill requires all businesses, public and private, to begin using E-Verify effective April 1, 2012. Businesses that do not comply face suspension of its business license and loss of employee expensing for state income tax purposes. All state and local businesses must be in compliance by Jan. 1, 2012 or face loss of business license and contract.

Great! Now all the criminal ‘immigrants’ will be squeezed out into the surrounding states, namely Texas! And we don’t currently have the gonads to do anything about it.
Didnt know there was a problem with illegals in Alabama. Must be pretty bad if they are resorting to this.
So letting illegals use emergency rooms, letting them buy property, educating their children for free, and hamstringing businesses with more regulations and reporting requirements.
As usual, backasswards.
If you can’t work you can do any of those other things. This in every state would be incredibly effective.

How do you propose preventing illegals from doing anything if you don’t require anyone to confirm that they’re not illegal? You want to be lying bleeding in a hospital while the hospital runs your I-9s? And, no, you can’t buy property anymore if you’re an illegal, now that Fannie Mae is in such big trouble... unless you want to pay cash. And I’m pretty sure you’d attract some federal interest if you paid for a home with $200,000 cash.
This is an utterly wonderful development. At long last these illegals won’t be able to move freely among us, taking our jobs, filling our schools and hospitals, and fill our jails from commiting crimes. Background checks will enable the businesses to root out the frauds from the real citizens and it’ll be perfect. Now if only we could introduce this system for welfare recipients, determine who is and isn’t eligible or a citizen. And for our schools in regards to enrollment and who deserves scholarships and then who knows what else. Even other countries could use this to ensure that citizens and not illegals get jobs, or government assistance. Good on Alabama for passing this.
It’s all over the place really.
I think this program will actually simplify running businesses and doing background checks; E-Verify will actually streamline a lot of things and eliminate substantial amounts of paperwork.
The Obama Administration is pandering to the Mexican
Government by not ENFORCING THE LAW.
It ain’t over ‘till it’s over.
One more log on the 10th amendment show down fire. It’s coming sooner than later and if Obama is stupid enough to push it now the showdown will happen next year. Anybody really believe Kennedy will flush his own legacy down the toilet by declaring the 10th amendment unconstitutional to help Obama?
Wrong. Shut off the job magnet and the lawbreakers will leave along with their families.
I pray Bentley signs this quickly.
What do you mean wrong? You said what I said.
All because the politicians won't enforce the border or preserve the rule of law.
"They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." -- Benjamin Franklin
My problem is it puts the burden on the buisness owner while still extending medical benefits, free education, property rights, etc.
There is still illegal immigration legislation being introduced in the special session.
Time will tell.
Hamstring my ass. It is against the law to hire illegal aliens and it is against the law for illegal aliens to work. E-Verify is a tool to help the employer, not hamstring him.
