Federal Speed Traps
Washington Times ^ | 01 Jun 2011 | Unsigned Editorial

Millions hit the road to be with family and friends for barbecues and other outdoor activities on Memorial Day weekend. It’s no coincidence that police around the country were staked out on the side of the road in anticipation. That’s because the federal government encourages states to shake down travelers who pose no threat to others.

RE Gilbo_3: “...those cute lil radar boxes on the side of the road, hopelessly destroyed...”

Yeah they have them in my neck of the woods, too. But a strange thing happens to some of them...they have “accidents” sometimes, I’m told...they just suddenly stop working, occasionally... and there are holes in them.

Lotsa vandalism, I guess...’s a shame, really...guess folks don’t like being entrapped on their way to work...you know, the same folk who pay taxes, which pays the salaries of the folks doing the entrapping.

Thug behind the badge, or in front of the badge...sometimes, I can’t tell the difference...

I lost all respect for the Blue Hero Brotherhood when they went from being Peace Officers (as in “keeping the peace”) to Law EnFORCEment (Damnit!) Officers.

RE Buckeye McFrog: “...get out of my car and set fire to a flag...”

There’s plenty of things that need fire, but our flag ain’t one of them, good brother. While I understand your sentiment, that’s just wrong any way ya look at it...the scum who are doing this to the Country are the flag-burners, not us. Too many good, fine, decent American kids died for that flag.

Instead, burn a rainbow fagflag, a UN flag, or a communist hammer and sickle flag; that’ll REALLY make their heads explode.

I can beat that one. On Memorial day weekend I got pulled over and fined for not wearing a seatbelt. I was only 1/4 mile from my neighborhood which was in view.

KLBJ has been talking about the 10 yr old Leander boy who was ticketed by a Williamson county deputy for incorrectly wearing his seat belt. You fellow central Texans surely remember the Attwater vs Lago Vista seat belt case that went to SCOTUS.

“...Operation Air, Land and Speed,...”
and
“...Click It! Or Ticket!”...
and
“...“highway safety corridor”...

Aw, gee, ain’t they just, just, the GINCHIEST!?!?! They’re SOOOOOOOOOOO creative with these imaginative catchy phrases!!! Wish I could be THAT smart!

My heroes...{sigh}...they’re just so, so DREAMY in their little Gestapo boots...especially the 400-pound affirmative action female orificers...oops, I meant “officers”...

Yeah.

If she was really! sorry she wouldn’t do it. But she’s got a quota to fill.

I wonder if there are polite muggers, “Oh I’m sorry ma’am but I need to buy weed, for my grandma’s glaucoma.”

Dirty little secret:

Many times, if you fight the ticket in court, the cop won't show and the judge will dismiss.

Depends on what type of infraction also. If you don't have a valid license or insurance, it probably won't work.

Holy crap, I am glad you were not in the car with me when I got pulled over. You probably would have got yourself maced and handcuffed and my car impounded, hell it's a $25

hhehehe...$25 bucks is $25 bucks, and the principle still stands...I told one goober to get his ass busy writing, and left his wonderin *if* it was worth it to have pulled me over...

seriously, would you risk yer life to rob $25 from a citizen, minding their own business, for the system ???

You sure are a character :)

But as my original comment pointed out, it was clear she knew she was not risking her life in my area known for its low crime and she felt foolish having to do such a meaningless task.

I gotta real example for you that meets your point, For years Maryland police were doing radar speed trap flagdowns so they could pull over multiple speeders without a moving car for each speeder. Eventually a officer got ran down and killed by a woman who didnt spot him when being flagged down jumping in front of her.

Clearly they were asked to risk their life for $$$ here (not the $25 they will get from me for them doing nothing.) What did the state do? They tried to indite the poor driver for manslaughter. The grand jury threw it out and the police ended the practice. I completely questioned the sanity of that suicidal policy with many people I know and even posted the news article on it here.

every bootlicker will tell ya that the common traffic stop is among the most dangerously unpredictable situations they face...this is used to justify beatdowns and tazings whenever a citizen gets uppity and demands to be treated with courtesy and respect by their employees...

there is very likely a correlation between bambamonomics and the cost of tickets vs the spike in lEOs gettin shot during 'routine' revenue enhancement activities of late...

i wont lose sleep over oath breakers that get dead whilst robbing their masters...
