Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, is apparently telling associates he will run against Sen. Orrin Hatch in 2012

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday in an above-the-fold A1 story that "five Utah politicos, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Chaffetz has told them directly in recent weeks that he will contend for the Republican (senate) nomination."

The story is attracting national attention, including pieces from Politico, MSNBC.com, UPI, and National Journal.

You are so right. Hatch voted hard for the Puerto Rican lesbo Sotomayer. He would be great if he were from the state of Maine. Utah can do so much better. Also need to get rid of the 4 RINO senators from Georgia and Tennessee. What a disappointment they have been.

Corker was a known liberal before his election, Isakson a 'moderate', Lamar! a squish, while Saxby was, I think, considered conservative.

So their performance in the Senate is not surprising.

Voters are stupid. Term limits would be beneficial.

Excellent.

Save some dignity and retire Senator Hatch.

Not much you can do about stupid voters. Not sure how term limits helps since the stupid voters will just put in another stupid politician, right? So I have no interest in term limits. And I like my senator (sessions). He can stay up there forever as far as I am concerned. Other one is still better than many up there.

Yes, absolutely. But at least the same jackasses couldn't stay there forever and lord over us. John Dingell has been in there since my mom was a toddler.

When Shelby retires his replacement will probably be better.

Amen to that sentiment. Hatch is either senile or just another RINO. Let’s hope this Chaffetz is a real Republican who can win.

Perhaps we could do better than Shelby but then maybe we could do worse. This state has lots of dems also. Shelby was a dem.

Imperfect as it is I think the constitution is fine as it is in that regard. I wouldn’t want outsiders to mandate sessions retire and then we get another Shelby elected. The people have term limits- they are called elections. I understand the argument for term limits but I don’t buy it.

So he was a democrat while in college who became a republican after he got some exposure to the real world (and met Ronald Reagan). I think I could overlook youthful and uninformed democrat activity on his part given the fact that once he started seeing the real world he moved to the right.

I don’t see his being China Jon Huntsman’s campaign manager, then his chief of staff as a youthful indiscretion. Lay down... dogs, fleas, etc.

I’m just saying we don’t need another Hatch. Red Flags. Voice in the wilderness. Bump ahead. Head’s up.

Ya know?

I don’t know all that much about Huntsman other than the fact that he served in the Reagan, GHW Bush, and GW Bush administrations in various capacities and that he was elected and then overwhelmingly reelected as Governor of Utah, a pretty conservative state.

Why Obama would choose Huntsman as an ambassador, and why Huntsman would choose an Obama appointment I don’t know. But from what I could tell about Huntsman, I don’t think serving as his campaign manager in 2004 (when he was running and campaigning as a conservative republican in a conservative state) and briefly serving as his chief of staff is a huge negative. In 2004 and 2005, I doubt anybody would have predicted that Huntsman would be appointed to an ambassadorship by an empty suit senator of a president with the most liberal (albeit limited) voting record in history.

Exactly the point. Huntsman is as conservative as Obama is a moderate. So just who greased the skids? The governor's office took a left turn with all the appropriate save the chillun hype.

"All I know is, 90 percent of the scientists say climate change is occurring," Huntsman told Time. "If 90 percent of the oncological community said something was causing cancer, we'd listen to them." - Jon Huntsman

Huntsman is no conservative. Who sold this bill of goods to Utahns? It was a hell of a sales job. He's a rock star! He's popular! He's a mormon millionaire! He's a progressive. Thank God his replacement, Gary Herbert, is the real deal.

Gosh, don’t you really want to like everything about Chaffetz? I do.

My spidey sense is ringing really loud. Be careful what you wish for. JMHO.

I like Jason but I am also trouble how he is going after Orrin Hatch.

Orrin deserve respect for his service even though he might have passed his prime.

Open hatch
Insert RINO
Close hatch
Hit eject button and see RINO float into space.
