President Barack Obama is pivoting from diplomacy on the world stage to the intimate and delicate domestic task of acting as healer-in-chief to a devastated community.
The president travels to tornado-wrecked Joplin, Mo., on Sunday, a day after returning from a six-day European tour of Ireland, England, France and Poland.
After days of focusing on the U.S. relationship with the rest of the world, he'll turn to an even more critical connection: his own, with the American people.
The president will visit with survivors and family members of the worst tornado in decades, a monster storm that tore through Joplin a week ago leaving more than 130 dead and hundreds more injured. About 100 others are unaccounted for, and the damage is massive.

Such moments can help define a president, but habitually even-tempered Obama is more apt to offer handshakes and hugs than tears and deep emotion.

We need Obama like we need Westboro Baptist Church. Doing okay and actually don't need FEMA unless they have programs to help the folks in the long run. So sick of the Federal Gov't taking care of things that could be better taken care of locally.
No, no peripheral damage. Churches and local people taking care of everything. More volunteers than they can manage, first everyone was supposed to go to the college and they were inundated and then gave up. FEMA is absolutely not needed unless they are offering long term programs.
I believe it was about the same in Tuscaloosa, community takes care of it.

Horrible comments, can we pray that these were former Obama voters that have changed their minds? I have found several people lately that admitted voting for him and “never again”. However the Dems I know are still supporting him, makes me sick!
I’m guessing he was really angry because his handlers insisted on this Joplin excursion, since it kept him from playing golf today.
There's a good reason for taking so long---he had to focus-group his healing speech---so every phrase would suckup to 2012 voters.
Stay tuned. From hereonin everything he says will sound like a focus group sound-bite......with all the proper inflections and hand and head gestures.

wow those numbers are staggering, follow the money to see just who he is, leaves little to no doubt he’s not standing for America.
I suspect nobama will mostly be in the way. I hope his stay is very, very short. Because, while he’s there, the only thing running through everyone’s head will be, “Has he left yet? Can we get back to work?”
