The U.S. Postal Service Nears Collapse
Businessweek ^ | May 26, 2011 | Devin Leonard

He is struck by how many USPS executives started out as letter carriers or clerks. He finds them so consumed with delivering mail that they have been slow to grasp how swiftly the service's financial condition is deteriorating. "We said, 'What's your 10-year plan?' " Herr recalls. "They didn't have one."

What does it say about you, that you are judging a whole bunch of people based on 1 sentence on a blog. Stop throwing stones and worry about yourself.

Re: Affirmative action based hiring and promotions...

I applied to the USPS in 1985.

Their standardized test was “normed” for race and gender.

That means white males compete against white males, black women against black women, etc., with a population based quota for each group, no matter what the group's top score or lowest score is.

I was just over the 90th percentile for white males, but Vietnam vets and various others received 10 bonus points, which effectively meant I had no chance of being hired.

Based on my raw score, I would have been hired if I was any other race, or if I had been female.

Phase 1 - Convert all home delivery to curbside boxes or kiosk multibox stations on each block. Eliminate thousands of small, underutilized post offices. Raise rates on junk mail.

And that is a big reason they are losing money, the union.

You two must go to the only church in the world which doesn’t have any sinners.

God Bless ya, cause you obviously need to take the splinter out of your own eye

“The junk mail arrived at the main USPS facility near the airport, packed in official USPS trays, and perfectly sorted for each delivery route.”

Thats very common. The rate for pre-sorted junk mail is much better than for unsorted. Anyone who does mail marketing knows this.

Put the USPS union in stasis; allow only full-time retirement for 30 years service, full-time.

Stop selling $1 cost money orders to illegals shipping hundreds of USD out of the country each week.

Deliver junk mail, but raise the price like they do on 1st class stamps.

Raise the price on slow-boat package mailings. People can use UPS or Fedex for that. They are asking everyone else to subsidize their cheapness for the true cost of shipping freight.

Stop franking privileges for congressmen - their ass should be back at home talking not BSing from Washington.

Finally, get the USPS out of the government documentation business - Passports, voter registration, etc. etc.

I was getting neighbors[and non neighbor’s mail]constantly.I got so sick of it,I left a message telling the mail lady she needs glasses so she can put the right mail in my box.She got all offended and left me a note saying it wasn’t her,it was the weekend driver.I was going to leave another telling her both of them needed glasses then because I was getting someone else mail during the week, also.Like they really deserve their pay and high dollar pensions.

Thankfully I got a full refund from the online retailer.

Wonder how much money retailers p*ss away replacing product lost by the United States Pilfering Service? Shame they can hire the BEST employees available instead of the deadbeat affirmative actions hires Americans see in so many different locations?

Look for the union label...

You should start reading the business pages. Then that sort of news wouldn’t escape your attention.

The private express statutes require a monopoly on "letter mail".

That includes checks. They are sent outside the mails through the federal clearing house system persuant to an exception written into law.

First-Class Mail is a service ~ not a monopoly.

Be a bit difficult. I’m self employed. Could buy out my contract, I suppose.

Do tell me when I can expect a phone call back about my packages from the Postal Inspector’s office, since you seem to be intimately involved with them. I’d really like to know where those carburetor parts went.

Try “post offices and post roads” in the main text of the Constitution. It’s been there all along. The FOUNDERS put it there.

Full retirement under CSRS was 40 years ~ it wasn't possible to get a higher retirement if you worked more than that.

So, you want to cut back the time for retirement?

Oh, and in the case of the postal workers, it’s rare that they go to jail for stealing when they get caught. It’s “counseling” they get instead, not fired. Local paper ran a story about that not too long ago.
