Is Obama above the law?
Washington Post ^ | May 27, 2011 | George F. Will

The U.S. intervention in Libya’s civil war, intervention that began with a surplus of confusion about capabilities and a shortage of candor about objectives, is now taking a toll on the rule of law. In a bipartisan cascade of hypocrisies, a liberal president, with the collaborative silence of most congressional conservatives, is traducing the War Powers Resolution.

Enacted in 1973 over President Nixon's veto, the WPR may or may not be wise. It is, however, unquestionably a law, and Barack Obama certainly is violating it. It stipulates that a president must terminate military action 60 days after initiating it (or 90, if the president "certifies" in writing an "unavoidable military necessity" respecting the safety of U.S. forces), unless Congress approves it. Congress has been supine and silent about this war, which began more than 70 days ago.

Where`s the GOP on this?

Sitting in a corner somewhere, quivering in fear of being called “racist.”

It’s racist to question the ‘won’.

Throughout history, there was no major difference between the two halves of the world, East and West, until the Magna Carta (at least in the sense that history addresses this issue). That one document created the concept that even the king was subject to the law and limited by the law, and the West was born and defined by how far that concept spread. Interestingly, as I read history, acceptance of those limits also defined the regions that would progress at a rapid pace. Obama is our country’s first leader who is culturally from the East, and it shows, not only in Obama’s conduct but also in our economy.

Violent house cleaning?

_______

In past years I would`ve agreed. These days the sheeple will only bleat with annoyance if “American Idol” or the rollout of the newest version of their favorite electronic toy were canceled.

So long as they get their piece of the pie, Americans on the whole have become too self-absorbed to pay any appreciable levels of attention to events in the government.

"IF.... this nation “ever” cancels or suspends election process ..... there will be a violent house cleaning IMO."

I agree. If there will ever be a point when the SHTF, that will be it, IMO.

Yes, Obama is above the law because it is "fundamentally flawed" in his own words.

WPA is unquestionably unconstitutional.

So is Obama, but this is not the right horse to ride.

And when Joe the Plumber dared to queation The One and had the temerity to call it socialism, The One`s apparatchiks in the Ohio state bureaucracy went to work digging into Joe`s past and putting all the “dirt” in the public eye?

Most Americans know this is what questioning The One brings... as such they choose quiet submission.

Oh? No law is actually a law if presidents and senators do not “recognize” it? Now, there is an interesting alternative to judicial review, and an indicator of how executive aggrandizement and legislative dereliction of duty degrade the rule of law.

Good point about the Magna Carta. I think the source of Obama's vision of himself as above the law comes largely from Marxism (where the Great Leader always gets to do whatever he wants, since he is in the vanguard of the "Revolution") combined with Islam, which is based on a theocratic political and legal system directly opposed to ours.

That said, I saw a truly nauseating political cartoon strip in a local paper that showed Obama wearing a crown and smiling benignly while he talked (one hand raised and pointing above) about "universal health care for this nation-state" and how he had "given this to his people" despite the hateful resistance. He was being watched adoringly by a hip-looking young white couple; then in the last panel, we see the man waking up and saying to the girl at his side, "I had the most wonderful dream..."

The left really loves the image of Obama as king, and so does Obama, so I think we're not going to see any complaints from the Dems. I just wish the GOP would stand up and do something.

I remember how Bush had to fight to get approval from Congress every step of the way in the Iraq war. But he did it.

Look at the GOP they look like the business headquarters of gag manufacturing plants. This nation spoke last November and said REPEAL BamBamKennedy's 'deathcare', and our sniveling crying leader in the House won't break the liberals 'rule' and defund this abomination. The rot and dead wood in elected office has nearly killed the tree of liberty.

If one man is “above the law”, then is there “law”??
or merely selective forbearance against the citizenry by that one man?

Someone who knows what it means and knows how to use it in a sentence. They might also believe they are writing to an audience with a better than 8th grade education.

He will do exactly what he can get away with..In my opinion and in the opinion of others I know, the Revolutionaries have taken over the US Government and the President is a one-man rule, heading toward dictatorship. He has used his “under the radar” back door policies, to rule without the consent of Congress, our representatives..They are now irrelevant and mostly useless. The major news media promotes whatever propaganda he approves of and they begin the personal destruction of any public figure who even tries to debate the issues. I pray for an act of God to turn this around, but, perhaps even God is not willing to move in to save people who have lost their self-reliance and are willing to accept favors in return for the votes which will annilate their own freedom and perhaps destroy their nation. This situation, I believe has come about, basically, because our people, through long years of “deconstruction” and outright lies about our history have produced at least two generations of people who do not accurately know that history. You are not moved to defend what you do not understand. This will not end well....

I have a neighbor here in Liberaland who had his fence plastered with “NO WAR FOR OIL” and “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THE HOME NOW” signs, to go along with his “IMPEACH BUSH” signs.

They are all gone now, replaced with “STOP THE WAR ON AMERICA’S WORKERS” signs.

I asked him if he was going to put the old signs back up now that we were involved in a genuine illegal war for oil in Libya, and the two conflicts he hated so much in the past were still producing casualties. I got a scowl. I told him that as I was one of the troops he supported back then, I’d provide him with an “IMPEACH OBAMA” sign for free as a token of my gratitude and esteem. If looks could kill, I’d have left on a medevac.

I have a feeling that I’m not going to be his favorite neighbor at the block party this year.
