Apparently, a lot of people consider President Barack Obama to be bumblingly inarticulate. "The guy can't talk his way out of a paper bag!" a reader wrote to me recently. "Sarah Palin is a brilliant speaker. It's the president whose sentences are undiagrammable," said another in response to a column I wrote about Palin. It's not just my readers, nor is it exclusively conservatives, who hold this view. A Google search of "does Obama have a speech impediment" turns up several pages of discussion among the president's supporters and critics alike. Admittedly, the president is given to a lot of pauses, "uhs" and sputtering starts to his sentences. As polished as he often is before large crowds (where the adjective "soaring" is often applied to his speeches), his impromptu speaking frequently calls to mind a doctoral candidate delivering a wobbly dissertation defense.
Not to be confused with a stutter, which the president decidedly does not have, the intellectual stammer signals a brain that is moving so fast that the mouth can't keep up. The stammer is commonly found among university professors, characters in Woody Allen movies and public thinkers of the sort that might appear on C-SPAN but not CNN. If you're a member or a fan of that subset, chances are the president's stammer doesn't bother you; [...]
That's kind of ironic, given that the godfather of the intellectual stammer is arguably none other than the paterfamilias of the conservative movement, William F. Buckley Jr. [...]
Obama's problem is not that he's an intellectual (for the sake of argument let's define it as someone who is scholarly, broadly informed and distinguished as a thinker). It's that he sounds like an intellectual. [...]

I’m stunned at the lengths the MSM goes to protect this disaster of a POTUS. Now we’re supposed to believe his frequent inarticulateness when without his TelePrompteR is only because his purple lips can’t keep pace with his brain?!
We truly live in the Bizarro World these days. It would be comical if it weren’t so damned serious and harmful to our once great country.
I should add... I stammer with the best of them.
“Uh” does not indicate a brain racing ahead of the mouth, it indicates a brain groping for a coherent thought. Alternatively it indicates a reluctance to go on record. When the messiah says “uh” he’s wishing he could simply say, “present.”
I think she’s saying that he’s searching for the word he wants. To me, that’s just that he’s not as fast at coming up with the right words.
For those of us who are inarticulate conservatives, that’s because we have such vast knowledge and understanding, it takes a while. ;-)
For BHO, perhaps the processing speed is lacking.
So being unable to speak in coherent sentences, and stammering is equal to a university professor, who are the smartest people on the planet. So therefore bambi is a genius. Does that sound about right?
It really does not matter one way or the other. He cannot provide a short, coherent, logical explanation of anything unless his speech writer has it up on the teleprompter. So, on a functional basis, he is inarticulate and his communication skills are down there with a stupid person’s.
His biggest problem is that he has no center. He has few convictions. He is a people pleaser and is trying to game his listeners. He is trying to figure out what they want him to say. Not what he knows or believes.
LOL!!
“Uh does not indicate a brain racing ahead of the mouth”
I’m amazed by the guy’s circumlocutions and ramblings and just getting lost in a train of thought. There are many instances of him not just searching for the next word but for the next sentence or thought. Remember his 10 minute answers to simple questions.
And we are paying $100,000 for his teleprompter coach.
I want to see the prez’s university records and grades.
Exactly - if he’s “brilliant”, why is all the empirical evidence by which we can measure this brilliance being locked away from public examination?
Please, don’t insult Butt-Head in that manner.
Truth is we don’t really need to see empirical evidence of measures of his “brilliance.” Fortunately, this guy gives us all the proof we can attest to whenever he opens his mouth.
How liberals can still find a shred of intellectual power in this savior of theirs says even more about their supposed intelligence to which the rest of us are supposed to aspire.
We all know, and I suspect many of of his own cadre, know he is a rather dim bulb being used for their purposes.
I just read on another post that when German scientists dissected Lenin’s brain, they concluded that it was not unlike the brain of a common criminal.
Liberals attribute absolute brilliance to ANY leftist in power. The reason for this is they get a sense of “brilliance by association”, or “I’m smart, too, because I support and agree with smart people”.
If they admitted that their leaders were no smarter than anyone else, they’d lose this sense of superiority by association.
Now, on the flip side, you have people like Cynthia McKinney, Sheila J Lee, and Marxine Waters as examples of some of the DUMBEST people to ever walk the earth and get elected.
And, when I asked my “smart by association” libinlaw if she’d ever heard of these people, she claimed she hadn’t.
On the other hand, let's hope they don't try swapping tasks...
Here's what I think of when I think of BHO trying to fly...
Yes, the socialist Dr. Vogt (with his colleagues) said many odd things, but he did note giant cortical pyramidal cells, which he considered an explanation of V.I. Lenin's renown as a superior intellect. He also had other cortical observations, IIRC.
If you're interested, you should be able to get ahold of some papers on the topic that were published about 20 years ago. I don't recall much of them, but they were fascinating!
“believe his frequent inarticulateness when without his TelePrompteR is only because his purple lips cant keep pace with his brain?”
Thats’ right! Now when Bush would stumble, it was because he was dumb.
Just incredible.
