Prayers UP. He left behind a 3-day-old daughter, and his body will be left on the mountain.

The important thing is that he almost got to be the 3,527th person to scale Everest.
That's worth dying for.

Bummer. I was in correspondence with him on occasion. I’ll be praying for his family.

He’d be more likely remembered if he had a scrotum bolt installed. Now that’d be a true first. And who cares about Everest? After Hillary and Norgay no one else really matters.

I guess that Everest was on his Bucket List, then Everest kicked his bucket.

His wife was expecting a child, and he decided to go climb a mountain?
His poor little girl will grow-up knowing that her daddy’s pleasure was more important than she was. There is an argument to be made that it’s better for her to grow up without such an influence in her life.

Due to my haste in posting, I did not include anything in the author's name field for the article. I have asked the mods to fix this.
The real author of the article is Dan Frommer. NOT me.
Cheers!

I can’t imagine a new daddy heading out to climb a mountain, but that’s just me. It’s also sad there will be no grave to visit.

I made it to the births of all six of my children - that's a summit I'm proud to have climbed and it binds me to my children irrevocably. This guy had his priorities all wrong. Sorry he lost his life in a vain, self-aggrandizing and failing quest that led him to abdicate his familial responsibilities. His widow and child don't even have the consolation of a grave-site to visit. What a legacy!

Good grief, why in hell would he do something so dangerous with a 3 day old daughter? Apparently he wasn't even there for her birth, given the time it takes to get to Nepal and up the mountain. Somehow, I don't think all the money he's leaving her will suffice for the fact that he, for all intents and purposes, abandoned her.
All this "I have to climb it to prove myself" carp is ridiculous, as witnessed by the numbers of people who've died trying to do it.

From: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/50493.php
The death rate on Mount Everest has not changed over the years, with about one death for every 10 successful ascents. For anyone who reaches the summit, they have about a 1 in 20 chance of not making it down again.
As the article indicates, there are hundreds of bodies climbers pass when they scale Mt. Everest. Delaneys will be among them.
