Waterloo is where Palin will accept Bachmann's surrender.

Bachmann will then retire to the Isle of Albert Lea. /rim-shot>

Cheers!

Romney’s Path
With the field clarifying, Mitt Romney’s interests now align well with those of one other possible candidate: Michele Bachmann. Both of them have an interest in seeing her do as well as possible.

Like Bob Dole in 1996 or John McCain in 2008, Romney is an establishment-oriented candidate with serious vulnerabilities on his right flank. To get the nomination, he needs (as they needed) to prevent the emergence of a single candidate to his right. So Dole made a tactical alliance with Pat Buchanan in Lousiana, helping to eject from the race the one candidate who could theoretically have denied him the nomination by consolidating voters to his right: Phil Gramm. McCain made a tactical alliance with Mike Huckabee against the candidate against whom both of them were competing and whom both of them hated: Romney.

Which candidate does Romney most need to worry about? In my view, it’s Tim Pawlenty. He can run to Romney’s right, but with establishment support, in a way that I don’t think Daniels or Huntsman can or want to.

The candidate who could play the Buchanan/Huckabee role this time is Michele Bachmann. Like her ‘96 and ‘08 counterparts, she cannot win the nomination but can prevent anyone to the establishment candidate’s right from getting it either. (I think she has greater potential strength in the primaries than Santorum, but if he took off he could play the same role.) So watch for Romney to start making a lot of positive comments about Bachmann.

I don’t believe Romney could win a Romney-Pawlenty contest. But he would almost certainly win a Romney-Bachmann race, and could well win a Romney-Pawlenty-Bachmann race. So to the extent he can boost her, it makes sense for him to do so. Having been on the losing end of this maneuver, Romney, I assume, knows how it’s done.

Well now that was an interesting read, Bratch. Humm-mmm..

I expect we’ll see more posturing as this heats up..and some will bail over time as the election draws closer. Thank you for your post...you seem to have a fix on the field and plays ahead. So keep sharing.

She is going to announce that she is planning on taking just enough votes from Sarah Palin to help elect a moderate establishment candidate

I thought this was sarcasm until I saw your tagline.

Michele Bachmann

born April 6, 1956 in Waterloo, IA (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)

Parents were
David John Amble, born in MN
Jean Johnson, born in IA

Both parents were US Citizens at the time of her birth (Meets the Jus sanguinis Requirement)

Michele Bachmann is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.

Wow, the name-calling in this thread on Bachmann, that she’s a RINO, an “establishment” candidate with the Bushes is just pathetic. I could support Sarah Palin any day of the week if she were in this race. But even if she was, I would not be trying to “destroy” Bachmann like many Palinistas in this thread appear to be content on doing. They are both good: may the better candidate win, for the sake of the country.

Right now, given the choices becoming apparent in the race, I am leaning towards Bachmann. The economy is going to be the central issue this election and she has been front and center fighting the disastrous Budgets in DC. No on TARP, no on the Budget, wants to adamantly repeal Obamacare, stop illegal immigration. She is the one person in this race who could be considered “inside the Beltway” without actually being considered part of it and has the voting record to back it up.

A logical choice of running mate for Bachmann would be someone who has shown they can make tough choices and get things done. This points strongly to Gov. Scott Walker. You put Bachmann/Walker on a ticket you’ll have a landslide victory.

I saw her video post yesterday for her latest fundraising and she seemed pretty excited to run (I really want to use the term “giddy”, because I don’t think she really expected this strong a level of support so early).

But it’s early. And I’ll be interested in the debates. She will try to nail Mitt on Romneycare, tie Pawlenty to his previous liberal stances, go after Cain on TARP, and Paul’s foreign policy as unacceptable. But we already know this.

What was Mitt doing up in NH a week or so ago, if not announcing?

They are stepping up to the plate....Palin looks to be shaking them all out!

This is true. Bachmann has been good by keeping the Tea Party message out in front in D.C. As she said over six months ago, her main goal is to keep the Tea Party message front and center.

Within weeks, Backmann will realize that the conservative base wants Sarah to lead the fight against the Marxist.

Hmmm. Wouldn’t it be interesting if Michelle set this up, for SARAH to announce at that time?

Actually Palin will take away enough votes from an electable CONSERVATIVE to give Obama the Marxist the win in 2012.
%100 Flame away ..I love her but she is no president at this point .

Give me the Electoral Math you base this statement on?

Please, enlighten us with which states you think Palin would lose that McCain won in 2008? Please, give us your inside voting information on the county-by-county situation in a place like FL or OH that shows she can’t win there.

I don’t get Bachmann. I don’t see her as being at a better advantage of Palin. She has yet to be introduced to the public and while I like her and she is similar to Palin and not afraid to take them on, I hope Palin enters because Bachmann is in for it and more to come.

I don’t like that Bachmann is an unknown to the public and with the eventual onslaught she is not in a better position than Palin. That’s the problem at this point.

Or she'll be out there to divert attention away from Romney and when it comes down to the wire throw her votes to Palin.

Huckabee comes to mind on his TV show. She said Palin’s entry into the race would not influence her decision, I call b$ on that.
