The Electoral College system never seemed fair to me. The possibility that someone other than the candidate with the most votes could end up president of the United States seemed undemocratic on its face - and all the more indefensible considering that one of the very reasons for its creation was the framers' wariness about delegating such a critical decision to the unwashed masses. Other rationales for this indirect election of the president included the protection of all states' active participation at a time when travel and communications restraints made a truly national campaign impractical.

When I hear whining about "fairness" I think of what Ayn Rand wrote in Atlas Shrugged.
Democracy is two welfare queens and a farmer voting on how much free food the farmer has to hand out.
So three or four states of the most populated states can always decide who will be president. That’s why our founders chose the electoral college so that wouldn’t happen.
Author fails to grasp that these are the united STATES of America and it is the states that elect the president.
This ridiculous proposal — if passed into law — will be thrown out the window the first time a Republican wins the popular vote but a Dem wins the Electoral vote. It reminds me of the Senate Democrats lobbying to end the filibuster.
Funny how liberals bring up this issue when the EC may not favor them. Maybe redistricting has something to do with it?
Seems to me I read somewhere that the EC was to preclude the existence of political parties...???
There is the truth. The need for the manufactured, victim voter who will force a dictatorship upon us. As from Burke; Democracy dies as soon as people realize that they can vote to themselves the productivity of others.
will not happen any time soon.
Democracy = The Tyranny of the Mob Codified.....
It would seem to me that this is EXACTLY what happened in the last election! Acorn rounded up as many of the "unwashed" they could find and tipped the election in favor of Obama.
Yes there were other factors, but the many past elections in recent memory have been so close that "tipping/manipulation" is now the norm.
How long has it been that a candidate could be so popular as to ger 75% of the vote?????
Why would anybody care what this stupid homosexuals opinion is about anything, much less the Founding Fathers and the greatest document ever produced, the US Constitution.
The Founders didn't put a right to vote, and the Electoral College, in the Constitution FOR A REASON.
5 Amendments and Motor Voter later you have muslim communist in the WH and homosexuals and marxists have infiltrated every layer of state local and federal government from coast to coast.
This douchebag is agitating to put the final nail in the coffin of the Republic.
They used to tar and feather people like this.
ger = get....Sorry
That would be nice if everyone played fair but they don’t.
The only way dems win is by using the dead, illegals, ACORN, bribes, and getting rid of the EC.
ye, but it didn’t work...

“Mr. Soros is the deputy chairman of Soros Fund Management and a supporter of the National Popular Vote.”
Translation: urban voters should have power
The bill as it was proposed in Michigan left a loophole in the form of an opt out clause. In other words the democrats could opt out if it looked like the GOP would win the popular vote.
