RAIPUR, India (Reuters) - Eleven people stormed into a house in a central Indian village and assaulted a woman whom they accused of witchcraft, blinding her and her husband by stabbing them in the eyes with scissors, police said on Saturday.
The incident took place on Friday in the Raipur district of Chhattisgarh state. Police later arrested 10 suspects.
A family in Khaira village had been having money troubles and health problems, which they blamed on a 45-year-old woman, according to S.S. Baghel, a local police officer.
"The accused blamed the alleged witchcraft power of the lady for their problems and raided her house on Friday morning," Baghel told Reuters by phone. "First they beat her up and then a few of them held her hands and legs and then inserted scissors into both her eyes."
When her husband tried to intervene, the group turned on him and inserted scissors into his eyes as well, Baghel added. A doctor at a local hospital said the couple would likely never be able to see again.

How I wish FR did not allow lurid news like this to be posted where I can’t miss it. I’m not here to be informed about people being mutilated, eaten, microwaved, etc., but it is unavoidable reading when posted in News/Activism.
India is a little different from most other countries. Like in Brazil, you have people in India whose range covers the entire spectrum - tribes living in forests with no knowledge of the outside world to the computer programmers. So I am not surprised. I still think India would make a great ally and we should cultivate India’s friendship to counter China.

What a horrible story. Horribly written headline, too. She was practicing witchcraft with scissors?
Some of these people in India do come from somewhat primitive backgrounds, but probably are goodhearted people in most circumstances. Fear can cause people to do very irrational and evil things.
We have an early history of harmful use of witchcraft accusations in this country during our growing pains, so we are not in a position to throw bricks at anyone. Rather should we take knowledge of our past to be compassionate and help others grow in understanding and grace. By and large I think Americans do try to do that. India, IMHO IS a very good potential partner and ally in today's world.
I have never understood the accusations of witchcraft. Do people who believe in that crap actually believe that a real witch would allow them to do this?
Time for another Vendome version of punishment that should meted out to these inhumane, criminal, hapless losers:
I would chained everyone of them by their hands and legs, then pulled him up four flights of stairs, feet first.
Then I would have kicked the men in the family jewels just enough to cause a stomach ache every 15 minutes for 8 hours.
After that I would pushed each loser out a window letting them fall four stories into a pile of razor wire 5 rolls high and 5 rolls wide.
They could lay in the pile of razor wire for two days in the desert sun. Then I would release a flock of crows and a couple of gallon of scarabs right next to them.
But that’s just me.
I concur with you. Successive Pew surveys have shown India as the country where the perception of America was most positive. Indians also believe that Democrats in USA are bad for India while Republicans are good for India.

India is the largest Democratic republic in the world surrounded by totalitarian states (China, Pakistan). If we still believe in supporting democracy, we need them as an ally. And yes, they have 1.2 BILLION people, so there will some of everything under the sun there.
Those involved in the attack should be publicly executed as slowly as possible
It would give the rest of these barbaric inbreds an idea of what goes for them should they fail to make an attempt at being civilized humans instead of feral beasts.
