The White House is skipping a legal deadline to seek congressional authorization of the military action in Libya but few on the Hill are objecting.
Under the War Powers Resolution of 1973 a president can only send troops into combat for 60 days without congressional mandate.

Countdown until Obama leaves Office: 609 days as of May 21, 2011. It's the gas and groceries stupid! And Bernanke says the labor market in 'a very deep black hole'

What do we need Congress for? We have a king now. The first monarch of Northern America. The people should not rise up against the king, we should be ushering Congress out of office reminding them that kings don't need the approval of the serfs, the king is the law, the king does not go begging for approval.
We should rid ourselves and the king of the parasites in Congress who will not rise in defense of the people that elected them.
There is only the king, we need no other.
Impeach Congress.

I’ve beensaying this for a while, so I’ll say it again. Just about everyone needs to be unelected in D.C. Short of that, things are going to go from bad (real bad) to worse.

Mr. Soetoro is taking liberties with the document he swore to protect and defend yet refers to the Constitution as a
"charter of negative liberties". Barry has set a new high for an elected official who holds the Constitution in such low esteem. Maybe Senator Robert "Sheets" Byrd should have bequeathed his "pocket version" the Constitution to Barry.

Would somebody tell me what the "downside" is for not following the Constitution? --
It's selectively not applied. The general game being played is "avoid accountability." Congress is winning, so far.
Congress let Bush create a military court, also against the Constitution. The president is not a natural born citizen, also against the constitution, lots of federal and state laws that infringe fairly pedestrian keeping and bearing of arms; the war on (some) drugs is fought from a federal level; the Commerce Clause is construed to give the federal government the power to compel individuals to enter into commerce; the list goes on and on and on.
We are living in "the downside." I don't believe there is any downside to the politicians or their armies of minions (government bureaucrats of all stripe).

Is the War Powers Act an actual law, or just a resolution? If it is law, the House law should begin impeachment proceedings immediately for violating the law.

The War Powers Resolution of 1973 (50 U.S.C. 1541-1548)[1] is a non-binding Joint Resolution intended to restrict the power of the President to commit the United States to an armed conflict without the consent of Congress. The resolution was adopted in the form of a United States Congress joint resolution; this provides that the President can send U.S. armed forces into action abroad only by authorization of Congress or in case of “a national emergency created by attack upon the United States, its territories or possessions, or its armed forces.”[citation needed]
The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30 day withdrawal period, without an authorization of the use of military force or a declaration of war. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto.
Despite the apparent non-ambiguity of its language, the War Powers Resolution has been regularly ignored by presidents of both parties,[2][3]some even declaring their belief that the act is unconstitutional.[4][5]

“The resolution was passed by two-thirds of Congress, overriding a presidential veto.”
Thus meaning it is law.

Congress will support Obama and ignore non-compliance with the War Powers act. They are spineless cowards. These things only apply to Republican presidents.
The press and Obama's Democrat co-conspirators will throw up a fog of "partisanship" and "racism" to give him cover.
Every single one of us should contact our congresspeople and senators, whatever the party, to be heard on this issue.
To: tobyhill
The House of Representatives can just defund it anytime. Boehner needs to warn Barry that he’s going to do it.
