Picking lemons
Lee Rodgers - Thursday, May 19, 2011 ^ | May 19, 2011

Posted on 05/19/2011 9:22:28 AM PDT by EveningStar

The woman applying for a job in a Florida lemon grove seemed to be far too qualified for the job; given her liberal arts degree and her jobs as a social worker and school teacher.

The foreman said, "I have to ask you this.Have you had any actual experience in picking lemons?"

"Well, as a matter of fact, I have! I've been divorced three times, owned two Chryslers, and I voted for Obama."

I sent my 3 kids to schools that would require them to create and/or be able to repair things...(engineering etc)

Liberal Arts majors are for the independently wealthy, Marxist and day dreamers.

You can tell a joke without using the enemies' premises. Use your brain, Francis.

I’d never hire a teacher to pick my fruit. Anyone stupid enough to be a “teacher” clearly is going to have hard times picking fruit. The problem here is not overqualification, but underqualification.

a joke is a series of situations usually reflecting exageration of true facts that end in a punch line.

the reason a joke is funny because it mirrors reality

my response was based on the ‘true facts’ that the joke was based on...I present it unashamed and stand by my remarks 100%, sorry to spoil your fun there Francis.

But the joke required the person to be an 0bama voter, so it makes sense.

I thought it was funny and I forwarded it to some of my email contact peeps.

...unless the person with the Liberal Arts degree also is a conservative with a work ethic and a keen mind, in which case he can make his way in the business world pretty well.

By the grace of God, me and my English degree are taking my third position in pharmaceutical manufacturing starting next month. It's amazing what you can do if you don't know you can't do it.

I feel sorry for all the stupid people that taught you things in life.

Clearly they were wasting their time.

KSFO screwed over Lee Rodgers so badly it’s ridiculous. Sure, that happens, but the guy they hired to replace him is....completely boring. It was so bad they had to provide a backdrop of some energetic music to pep things up a bit.

You know...similar to the way a Bay Area heavy metal station does morning drive with a pair of hammy guys who make boobie jokes.

They got rid of Savage, Melanie, Lee, and basically anyone bringing in ratings.

I don’t listen to KSFO anymore, but not cuz I’m angry (thought I am just a little) but because listening was becoming such a bore.

I listen to a Santa Cruz talk station instead.

good point...I steered my kids toward engineering etc after I graduated with a liberal arts degree (gen studies/English minor) at the local junior college, then self taught myself how to fix motorcycles and did that for 7 years....originally cursing myself for wasted those years.

after that I spent 17 years in pharmaceutical production, followed by another 15 years in metrology in the same pharmeceutical facility...before retiring 2 years ago....

because I had taken English I was able to write my own SOPs handily, my technical skills and hands on ability combined with my ability to handle documentation chores is what kept me indispensable to upper management for 30+ years.

so a well rounded education is the best way to go...

I know you’re speaking in specifics here, but where I live, most of the teachers are extremely conservative (flawed, like all people, but conservative).

My wife is a teacher, and yes, there are those that are idiots. Just like there are mechanics that are idiots (my F150 says use 5W-20 oil, I asked for 5W-20 oil, don’t put 10W-30 in it, on multiple oil changes!).

Broad-brush painting all teachers with the paint your using is quite simply asinine. More likely, your issue is with teacher UNION THUGS who blindly follow the Democrat ilk, lining their own pockets; basically selling their fellow teachers out for 30 pieces of silver, as it were.

Thank you. Both of my 20 something children are teachers. They both are very conservative and are very intelligent. They are committed to educating the next generation.I feel bad that they have such a thankless job.
It is wrong to paint with a broad brush!

Shouldn’t that read “ I and my English degree?”

You’re welcome - people who disparage teachers (or cops, or whoever) in a lump sum are taking a page out of the Democrat playbook - trying to pit one group against another (Whites v Blacks, Rich v Poor, etc).

We are called to not just notice failings, and point them out - but to DO SOMETHING about them. Your local school sucks? Then elect board members you agree with. Run for school board yourself! But, don’t just sit there, do something and FIX IT!
