"Conservatives would have to mount a massive, rapid, and high volume effort to get him in. I think such an outpouring of support and requests would draw Perry in. But, to do so, itd have to be after Daniels and with continued displeasure with the field by conservatives.
One of the sticking points has always been whether the country was ready for another guy from Texas so soon after Bush. With Texass economy flourishing and the national economy still imploding, I think the country could get ready for another guy from Texas really quick.
Daniels is running. How conservatives react once Daniels makes it official could have an impact on Perry if conservatives target him for a draft effort."

As bad as Daniels is, Perry makes him look good.
In 2012, another guy from Texas, or the same commie from Kenya?
H.B. z ~ it’s still too soon after LBJ!
neither is conservative enough.
This redstate guy works for CNN. I pay him NO attention at all. Removed his website from my list.
If feel another “do I have to hold my nose and vote?” election coming up.
He doesn’t have chance.
Amen, brother.
You MUST be kidding.
With which substantive policy issues he has discussed do you disagree?
Why is it that all these people who probably couldn’t even recognize or find Texas on a map think that Perry is a conservative?
Perry for President....
President of the Free and Independent Republic of Texas!
Daniels passed the first state bill to defund Planned Parenthood. He passed a tough immigration bill. He has Indiana’s budget in better shape than almost any other state. He’s an excellent Christian family man who doesn’t wear it on his sleeve to get more votes. This is no RINO, folks. Don’t fall for the empty mischaracterizations. (He does put his foot in his mouth about once or twice per year, though.)
Precisely because this talk of Perry is taking place, we ought to discuss the SUBSTANCE of why he should/should not be considered. For those of us who do not live in Texas....enlighten us. ;-)
The best things about Rick Perry are his political skills (considerable) and his hair.
Policy-wise he's not necessarily as strong as Pawlenty or Daniels. But he's very good at playing the populace.
I think anybody who actually articulates that he wants people to come ask him to run is either arrogant or needy or both. I’m willing to be convinced that was somebody else misquoting him, but my first reaction is, “Yeah, we’ve already got a ‘savior’ in the WH, don’t need another one”.
Colonel, USAFR
He has a history of making deals that benefit cronies, from awarding major no-bid contracts to companies owned by his political benefactors, to issuing executive orders to MANDATING the gardasil vaccination for all girls age 12 and up to land grabbing private property (a la Kelo) for the Trans-Texas Corridor NAFTA superhighway. He has only recently given lip-service to an about face on illegal immigration but until then was soft on the subject.
In short, he is John McCain with John Edwards’s hair.

Uh no, he puts his foot in his mouth once or twice per week - and it’s always the same thing: pandering to the moderates and liberals at the expense of the true conservative base. You know, like we “can’t argue with Democrats” and so on. (that video is on FR today in fact, on a thread being avoided by Daniels supporters for some strange reason).
I’ll credit him for walking the walk and that’s important. But in todays America, talking the talk is maybe just as important for a President. And Mitch just cannot talk the talk. Or won’t.
