Disney Looking to Trademark Navy Seal Team 6
Huliq ^ | May 15, 2011

As the interest in counter-terrorism soars, the Walt Disney Company is attempting to trademark the name Navy “Seal Team 6,” the unit responsible for taking down Osama Bin Laden. Counter-terrorism is becoming a big market since the death of Osama Bin Laden and it appears the Walt Disney Company is ready to cash in. Disney is currently trying to trademark the name Navy “Seal Team 6,” the unit responsible for killing Bin Laden.

On May 3, just one day after the news was out about the death of Bin Laden, Disney applied to trademark the name “Seal Team 6.” The trademark application covers an array of items including clothing, head wear, footwear, games, toys and entertainment and education services...

On Friday, Disney was not available to comment about its application to trademark the term “Seal Team 6.” According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney is the the first company to trademark SEAL Team 6. The previous owner, NovaLogic, Inc., abandoned two associated trademarks in 2006.

Nova Logic is a privately-owned company founded in 1985 and a developer and global publisher of computer games for the PC. The trademarks they had for “Seal Team 6” focused on video and computer gaming. Records reveal the trademarks were originally acquired in 2002 and 2004.

ScreenJunkies reported Disney could possibly use the trademark to create a cartoon movie featuring the Navy Seals taking out Bin Laden. They also revealed movies about Bin Laden are definitely in the making...

It is unknown whether Disney will get the trademarks for Navy “Seal Team 6” it applied for right after the demise of Osama Bin Laden. If Disney get the trademarks, there is sure to be plenty of press and merchandise about “Seal Team 6.”

“Seems to me like the trademark and all profits ought to belong to the Pentagon - and American taxpayers.”

For whatever it’s worth, “Seal Team Seven” novels have been in publication since 1994.

BTTT here guys...

My wife and I (avid gamers) called this one when he was shot.

1st person shooters have become so bland recently. I thought that having a game where you are Seal Team Six and actually put a bullett ( or have the choice not to) in OBL’s brain would be a backdrop for a wonderful and intense game for adults.

If done right it would make it a very relevant and interesting way to portray modern events. And for all of those saying they shouldn’t profit from it, then should every news organization in the world have to give their profits to the govt?

Aren’t they profiting off of them as well?

Let them. Then let them contribute the profits from this to any of the excellent veterans and family support charities.

...greedy, unpatriotic bastards.

Exactly!

For the past 28 years I have lived within 15 miles of Disneyland and have never visited the park - nor do I intend to do so.

Had a business connection to Disney Corp years ago and saw first hand how horribly they treat people.

If Walt was alive, I believe he would be ready to go on a personal killing spree in his company.

They have fag nights..I mean, gay nights in Disneyland during October.

*sigh*

No, they don't.

Anyone can organize a Disney "group event" and get discounted tickets, etc. So-called "gay days" are organized and run by people outside the Disney organization. As long as the participants abide by the conduct policies Disney uses for all guests, Disney has no recourse to prevent them from doing this, even if they wanted to. (And I'll agree that they don't want to, as an organization, but that's beside the point.)

In theory, there could be a Free Republic day at Disney if someone wanted to organize it and file the paperwork for group discounts.

The big thing that I see is them working on making a film about what happened. I think that’s a job more meant for paramount pictures or 20th Century Fox to do, assuming there is going to be a film made about hunting down Osama bin Laden.

this is related originally to their el-cheepo production of anthropomorphic seals looking to be military types. (not a joke)

Since the Government is owned by every taxpayer, the name or term “Seal Team 6” should not be allowed to be trademarked.

The issue is whether disney is copyrighting this in order to protect their anthropomorphic military characters and this is just another plausable denial coincidence OR the suits really screwed up.

either way they will not be believed. BTW their Candelight Processional is a very Christ in Christmas epcot event during park hours.

as for the other thing ,

excerpts indicated:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-gay-days.htm

The Gay Days schedule for 2011:
Thu, June 2 - Animal Kingdom
Fri, June 3 - Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Sat, June 4 - Magic Kingdom
Sun, June 5 - Epcot

“Go get a room”.

That’s exactly what I feel like yelling this time every year as Gay Days descend upon Orlando. I know that during the first week in June, unsuspecting families and otherwise good and reasonable people will, at times, be confronted with images and events they would probably rather not see or experience on their family vacation. These people paid to visit Disney World, but during the first week in June, it looks a lot more like South Beach.

For the record, I’m a 42 year old gay man living in Orlando. I’ve been to Gay Days before, and thought it was a little bit over the top, but always bit my lip – especially here on the site. This year though, it just seems completely out of control, and I wanted to get this off my chest.

I’ve watched over the years as Gay Days has grown in scope and size. What once was a small group of well meaning gay men and lesbians has grown – and in my opinion, deformed – into what is now nothing more than a vile spectacle of self indulgence and indecency.

No matter how prudish that last sentence may sound, trust me – I’m no prude. I have a liberal streak that cuts through me like a hot knife through butter, but I like to think that I was raised with a certain sense of decency and a pretty good sense of right and wrong. There is a time and a place for everything, and Disney World is neither in this instance.

Over the years I have heard about, and have witnessed, what is commonly referred to as PDA (public displays of affection) during gay days, and almost always it’s done in full view of a family, or at least children. I don’t care if you’re straight or gay, there are some things kids don’t need to see – and trust me, two queens frenching outside Cinderella castle is really high on that list.

I can’t help but think of, and feel sorry for – the unsuspecting family who saved for years for a once in a lifetime trip – only to arrive and find that Disney had in fact, been invaded by he-women and shaved down muscle boys. By itself that would not be a problem, but the sheer number of people who seem to go out of their way to rub their sexuality in everyones face during this ‘event’ is nothing short of disgraceful. Is the Magic Kingdom REALLY the place for a 5 year old to ask his father why those two men are kissing? Is it really up to any person to decide for that parent when, or if, they will have that conversation with their child? I’ve always believed the best way we, as gay men and lesbians, could further our cause was to simply live our lives openly, and with dignity. Not hide in shame, and not force our beliefs or lifestyle down anyone elses throat. I don’t like it when I hear pompous windbags telling me I’m going to burn in hell for being gay, and I’m sure most of the free world would appreciate a visit to Disney World that did not include the vision of grown men in go-go shorts, and ads for lubricant prominently displayed throughout the host hotel. Oh, and while we’re on the subject of ‘image’ at the host hotel (the Sheraton World on International Drive)– the line of beer trucks outside the resort was a nice touch, and the liquor kiosks and condom ads every 5 feet will certainly not further the image of us as a bunch of drunken sex fiends.

The argument is often put forth that since Christian groups congregate at Disney World, why not us? Fair enough, except that the ‘Night of Joy’ (the Christian concert that takes place at the Magic Kingdom each year) is a hard ticket event – meaning that it’s not open to the public, and requires separate admission. The Magic Kingdom is closed down to the public at a certain time, and only those people that CHOOSE to be there are allowed in. Families that come to the Magic Kingdom on Gay Days are not afforded the luxury of choice. Since Disney does not sanction the event, it’s not mentioned anywhere, or to anyone booking a reservation during that week.

...

Then there is the issue of drugs. It is widely known throughout the gay community in Orlando that if you want good drugs and great sex, the first week of June is a great time to visit. So much so, that the Orange County Sheriffs office found it necessary to station deputies and drug sniffing dogs in the lobby of the host hotel. And before the oppression chorus starts warming up, just get real – we all know that it goes on in droves during gay week – and it’s not ‘oppression’ if it’s justified. I don’t mean to imply that every person attending gay days is a drug crazed lunatic – the vast majority are not – but no one in the gay community can deny how pervasive this problem is, and the problem travels with us.

It depends. In some states, if it’s considered consumer fraud, the attorney general goes to work.

I agree the US Navy Pentagone and US tax payers alredy own that name and IMHO we should tell Disney this does not and never will belong to them.

It's all about money and developing properties related to it and preventing other companies from also developing properties. It's pretty disgusting.
