TOLEDO Wildlife researchers in northern Ohio want to know whats killing thousands of walleye in Lake Erie.
Many of the dead fish have been washing up on beaches between Toledo and Port Clinton in recent weeks.
Ohio Department of Natural Resources biologist Roger Knight says it looks like the worst might be over.
The walleye is Lake Eries most popular sport fish and draws anglers from across the Midwest and beyond.

I live 15 miles from PC and have barely heard a word on this. I hope Lake Erie is not going back to the days of old when it caught on fire...

When I’m around that area I always try to eat at the Jolly Roger. I hope this doesn’t affect their menu!

I grew up in Toledo and the beaches ALWAYS smelled like dead fish. Wasn’t it the Cuyahoga that caught fire?

Too funny, we ate there today!

This has been happening for years on the lakes, all of them.
It just goes through periods of fish kills and nobody seems to know what it is.
My guess is natural gas seeping and contaminating just some areas. My guess is as good as any of those professors that study the stuff and get paid.

I prefer crappie but walleye is a good eat
but harder than heck to catch sometimes.
Shame to see all that fish go to waste.
