Anti-foreign law bill will protect all S.C. citizens
The US Report ^ | May 13, 2011 | Chris Carter

Posted on 05/13/2011 1:42:29 PM PDT by Crush

SC Senate bill 444 does not violate rights of Muslims, though Jihadists would have us believe otherwise.

The SC Senate is currently debating legislation that would ban the enforcement of foreign and religious laws - including Islamic sharia law – but opponents claim the bill would violate the constitutional rights of Muslims. Nothing could be further from the truth.

In April, a Judiciary subcommittee conducted two hearings (on two separate days) on Senate Bill 444, which would prevent foreign and religious law from violating an individual's constitutional rights. A third subcommittee hearing is in the offing.

South Carolina's bill does not mention sharia law, and appears to avoid religious infringement altogether, unless the religious law would violate the rights of another: “A court, arbitrator, … or enforcement authority may not enforce a foreign law if it would violate a constitutionally guaranteed right of this State or of the United States. The provisions of this section apply only to actual or foreseeable violations of the constitutional rights of a person caused by the application of the foreign law.”

Howard Stravitz, a professor at the University of South Carolina School of Law, testified at the South Carolina subcommittee hearing that the bill would violate Muslims' freedom of religion. Stravitz did not respond to The US Report’s request for clarification.

“The backers of these discriminatory proposals realize if they put specific references to Sharia or Muslims, it won't pass constitutional muster,” said Ibrahim Hooper, Director of Communications at the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

When The US Report contacted Hooper to clarify which elements of S. 444 he considered unconstitutional, Hooper instead sent material related to Oklahoma's attempt at banning sharia rather than South Carolina's legislation. Senate Question 755 was approved by 70 percent of voters in Oklahoma before being...

Yeah, so banning honor killings, stonings, and polygamy among Muslims is all that bad. Note to Muslims: Live under the same common law as the rest of us, you might just learn to appreciate it too.

What about Jewish Law?
What about Vatican Law?
What about American Indian Tribal Law?
What about illegals and Mexican Law?

Why do the Muslims get to have their own ‘Law’ and not everybody in the whole country?

Perhaps you should ask that question to the British and the city of London. Heck, in parade, there have been a number of times in the past decade especially, where guys basically held up posters advocating Sharia Law, and at least one where a man dressed up with a huge jacket (suggestion of a suicide bomber?). It’s messed up even more out there. At least SC laid the basic rules and expectation that Muslims should live under the same laws as everyone else. I agree with that idea.

Yes Abide by our rules and laws,But Muslims seem to want the free pass to be savages, thinking we will be scared! But most are infuriated instead, their plan will backfire on them here.

“the bill would violate Muslims’ freedom of religion”

By his logic if slavery was allowed by a religion then it would have to be allowed. I wonder why law professors haven’t been promoting the rights of Mormon’s to practice polygamy? Could it be that they don’t want to destroy the US.

It is a striking comment on the state of our Union that states have to pass laws that say that other laws are not enforceable. It used to be that the Law was the Law. Now we have to distinguish between our law and other law. Sick frankly. Consider that they post signs at railroad crossings that read “Do not stop on tracks.” The Libs have made us stupid; time for some big changes.

Because they aren’t Muslim, the other part is, you have a lack of a lobby pushing for a legally sanctioned polygamy anyways. As far as I am concerned, its’ easier for some random John to have plural mistresses than it is for him to bother lugging around multiple marriage licenses, inheritance agreements, etc? Although a campaign to de-criminalize polygamy is not too unlikely.

I have never understood why anyone would want that many bosses. One is more than enough.

This law is why the 2010 election was critical. We elected more than 700 patriots to state legislatures, giving us complete, or nearly complete, control of 26 states.

These states are now setting thousands of brushfires that the federal fascists occupying Washington have neither the manpower nor resources to extinguish. Put out one brushfire, another 10 start.

We are following the Founders blueprint to take on a totalitarian overseer.

Instead of only looking to the RINO frauds in DC to attack the fascist king obuma, work in your state to attack DC.

And elect a constitutional sheriff in your county. This is critical.

It's a sad state of affairs that a new law is necessary.

It is a striking comment on the state of our Union that states have to pass laws that say that other laws are not enforceable.

On the other hand, it is a striking comment that states ARE passing laws that that say laws that are spoon fed to them are not enforceable. People are tired of a century of progressivism and want to govern themselves. That is a healthy thing. Those who come here and can't adapt to our laws can head on back to their country (or state) of origin.
