Fitted or flat?
Thats the weighty question facing the California Legislature, which is considering a bill that would regulate what type of sheets can be used on hotel bed mattresses across the state.
Supporters of the bill argue it will reduce worker injuries by eliminating the need for workers to repetitively lift extremely heavy mattresses when making beds. They contend that flat sheets cause workers to strain their backs, shoulders and wrists, and are often responsible for repetitive motion injuries.
State Bill 432, sponsored by Sen. Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles), also calls for the use of long-handled tools like mops and dusters so housekeepers do not have to get down on their hands and knees to clean bathroom floors.
Just by using fitted sheets you could cut the number of lifts in half, and we think that would go a long way in preventing worker injury, said Leigh Shelton, a spokesperson for UNITE HERE, a union that represents California hospitality workers.
But the California Hotel and Lodging Association says replacing existing sheets to comply with the bill could cost between $30 million and $50 million.
At a time when Californias looking at over a $26 billion budget, you would kind of think that the legislature had other things to worry about, said Randi Knott, of the California Hotel and Lodging Association.

Not surprised a Democrat is pushing this.
WHAT FRIGGIN BUSINESS IS THIS OF A LEGISLATURE????????
I’m really hoping it gets voted in. Let those Leftists regulate CA out of existence and show everyone else just how destructive government sprawl truly is.
OMG.....With the economy in the crapper this is important?
I would be happy just to know they are clean.
Just remember, vote democrat in the next election, it should work the 300th time........
What’s the useful lifetime of those linens, forty or so washes through the sanitizing systems used at hotels? Something like this could be made a recommendation for new replacement linens, and there would be no waste. Why not put it up to a vote of the housekeepers at each hotel — some may still prefer that there be only one kind of sheet so there is one less kind of bed linen to sort.
Most likely generous contributions from the Fitted Sheet Manufactures Association. You don't get legislation for free you know. ;~))
wow. Big Master government even wants to control your sheets
No Sheet!
wow.
Obviously these maids haven’t had a run in with trying get a fitted sheet on a bed.....not to mention trying to fold them!
Every time I tried to fold a fitted sheet, I started out great and finished up thinking “oh, what the h-—!”
Next up for a vote... percale or Egyptian cotton.
So what was the question that so engaged the American public?
Well, a housewife wanted to know if, when inserting a new roll of toilet paper, should the start of the roll drop away from the outside ( away from the wall) or from the inside ( near the wall)
No dount the California legislature will take up this question soon..it's worth of their consideration..
That should be true, but nevertheless I still find myself amazed at such impossible stupidity.
Exactly, especially when they shrink!
Both please, about 600 tpi.
Is Unite Here part of SEIU? Ossama Bin Obama’s pals running the state government?
Dimorats need to be eradicated!!
