Good day. We are on the verge of investing in a laptop for our child. Our child will be heading off to college and will be using this tool especially for composing music. We are not particularly concerned about the gaming capabilities.
Our family's considering either a Mac or Dell. If money were no object, we would purchase the MacPro, but that is unlikely. Here are the main issues were are concerned about:
1. reliability 2. customer assistance 3. durability 4. expansion options
Would any of you recommend purchasing a refurbished laptop? If so, why? If not, why? Is there any other brand you would recommend (Lenovo, HP, etc.)? If so, why?
Have I failed to consider other important issues/specifics?
Any further recommendations or advice would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks, Balata. I appreciate the comment.
We’ve never owned a Mac, and so we will surely be needing help. From what I understand, Mac is great in helping their customers learn their way around their products.
I’ll also be sure to post threads on FR. The expertise and experience of many here have been a great help to me on many occasion.
BTW, did you purchase all your Mac’s at their website? We live in at the Edge Of Nowhere, and at the corner of No Mans Land. We have to buy online.
I purchased them at a company Apple store. Because this is such and investment make sure you buy the 3 yr. extended warranty. They are very good at honoring this.
Also, they have a class called “one on one” and can tutor through the transistion period. It may or may not be needed, but it’s available.
There is a learning curve which can be frustrating, but having access to mac users who can quickly answer your questions will help greatly.
Instead of Power Point Mac has Keynote which I use to make awesome presentation. It is easy to use and easy to share with others in either Power Point format or Keynote. I know others have mentioned GarageBand.
Good Luck and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Trust me, I won’t be shy about asking. :^)
I wanted to purchase the One On One, but it’s too pricey. I knew we’d find other resources (FR), and a few friends in the pc industry own Mac’s, so we’re cover.
I’m purchasing the 3 yr. plan. Also, we’re purchasing the Logic Express.
Thanks for your help.
