Gingrich announces he's running for president

ATLANTA (AP) --- Newt Gingrich, the House speaker who led a national GOP resurgence in the 1990s before facing ethics questions and resigning, is running for president.

Gingrich's announcement, made on social networking websites Monday, came after months of public flirting with a bid. He enters a slow-to-form GOP presidential field that has left some Republicans craving more options as they search for a nominee strong enough to credibly challenge President Barack Obama.

The former Georgia congressman, well-known to most Republicans, brings to the race a years-in-the-making political machine with ties to early nominating states as well as a network of supporters and donors. But his personal baggage --- he's acknowledged marital infidelity and has had two divorces --- could hinder his chances of winning the party's presidential nomination more than a decade after leaving the House.

Still, he spoke confidently of wide support.

Which beliefs does Romney stand behind, exactly?

The pro-abortion or the pro-life beliefs?
The anti-gay marriage or the pro-gay marriage beliefs?
The anti-Obamacare or the pro-Romneycare beliefs?

Yawn! Man am I sleepy. That was the most boring news ever. He is a chump. If he gets 1 percent in the primary I will be shocked.

For anyone interested, the WALL STREET JOURNAL had an extensive, fair and balanced, piece on NG yesterday.

One thing I learned about him but did not know: he was a KEY FACTOR in defeating the Iowa Supreme Court judges who tried to force gay marriage upon the voters of that state. (For those of you who forgot, the Iowa Supreme Kangaroos told the people of their state that gay marriage MUST be allowed. In 2010, the voters of the state VOTED OUT some or all of the Kangaroos who tried to write law.)

The WSJ piece also pointed out NG’s not so conservative positions on “climate change” and his flip flop on recent events in Libya. He also suffers from familiarity fatigue.

But should he somehow win the nomination I would not hesitate to vote for him above Urkel. He, while perhaps a fool, is not an outright enemy of the Nation.

I think I barfed a bit. That would be the hardest vote to date. Even McCain would have been easier....yes with Sarah. But even without Sarah it would have been easier to vote for McCain than Gingrich 100 PERCENT.

“Why can’t we find a former veteran,..who became a CEO of a successful business, has a decent marital track record with kids, that will run for president? Is that too hard to find?”

Apparently. But take a brief look at what happens to people like that when they do run. Their life is completely turned upside down for the dubious “reward” of dealing with a bunch of beltway schmucks, and for far less money than they would earn if they had never bothered.

Short lived political escapade. Not traction whatsoever.

After NY 23, Newt is dead to me.

Why isn't he dead to Sean Hannity, who had him on after the NY23 debacle - and didn't even ask him about it!!!

Maybe he’s an ok historian (I don’t know) but his knowledge of weather (aka “global warming”) could not be more shallow.

In most cases, massive egos.

In Newt’s case, a massive ego AND some kind of delusion that the press DIDN’T spend years trashing him on a daily basis to the point where his own mother wouldn’t want to vote for him.

His daughter has published that the stories are false that he abondoned his wife...their divorce had already been in the making. However, I did not say ALL people would pass it off as a non-issue...but many will.

Why?

To keep his name in the public awareness.
Doing so will help future book sales.

Who do you want? Trump? Huckleberry? Mitt? Daniels? How about Paul?

None of the above. What's probably going to happen is, the Whigs, a.k.a. the Gelded Old Party, will nominate another RINO loser, and we'll have to do the best we can with Tea Party nominees in Congress, the Senate, and the state and local elections. Then we can work at getting the ship of state back on course.

If our country lasts long enough, that is. I'm slowly losing my cautious optimism.

He’s not running to win. He’ll end up sitting in the back of some bar with Dennis Kuchinich and laugh about how they spend all their campaign contributions, how much money their friends made and how much face time they got in the campaign.
