ATLANTA (AP) --- Newt Gingrich, the House speaker who led a national GOP resurgence in the 1990s before facing ethics questions and resigning, is running for president.
Gingrich's announcement, made on social networking websites Monday, came after months of public flirting with a bid. He enters a slow-to-form GOP presidential field that has left some Republicans craving more options as they search for a nominee strong enough to credibly challenge President Barack Obama.
The former Georgia congressman, well-known to most Republicans, brings to the race a years-in-the-making political machine with ties to early nominating states as well as a network of supporters and donors. But his personal baggage --- he's acknowledged marital infidelity and has had two divorces --- could hinder his chances of winning the party's presidential nomination more than a decade after leaving the House.
Still, he spoke confidently of wide support.

I give him some credit for trying (launching an academic career) but ultimately he failed. Huh? He had a full and successful career as a history professor long before he ever ran for public office.

Yes he would indeed slap Obama around in a debate arena...so that part of the show would be fun to watch. I agree he loves this country and don't have a problem with him not spot on with everything I hold to.
..but like you.. I just think the American people want to move forward without the re-runs...(they will see him as a member of the “old school” politics)..and most are looking for someone refreshing and up to the modern day line of thinking.
I say this because I am truly wondering how strong the conservatives are in number when it comes to voting. Obama whips up the minority's up as well as the youth...so it's going to be a battle ahead no doubt. The liberal media will have a rough time attaking his divorce issues....the mindset today hardly glances at that issue anymore.

So?
The MSM will continue to skewer [INSERT GOP CANDIDATE NAME HERE] until he/she quits the race or loses in November.
Name a candidate the media won’t bash and you’ve got yourself a non-Republican or RINO.
One good thing about Newt. he knows how to respond in kind to media attacks.

Also, if you have a PhD. in history & you have to have a coauthor (read........real author), something is seriously wrong. That’s what historians do................WRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got an e-mail from Gingrich Saturday. As always, it had a big image of Newt with Callista. He always has an image of both of them. It's like saying, “Take a look at my baggage.”

Absolutely and our candidate will be tempered by fire... because these debates will get rowdy. We will see obama get his... he is going to have to answer every charge that come up about him during these republican debates... and obama has no one to debate. He will make asinine statements and attack our candidates and that will make him look petty and small.

Yes, the GOP is a disgrace. I wish Sarah was in charge of it...then we’d have something.
Saw the current guy on TV this a.m. - gads...the stereotype of the snotty jerk...it was too awful.
