Robert Martin Patterson (born April 16, 1948) is a retired United States Army soldier and a recipient of the United States military's highest decoration?he Medal of Honor?or his actions in the Vietnam War. |
Patterson joined the Army from Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1966, and by May 6, 1968, was serving as a specialist four in Troop B, 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment. During a firefight on that day, near La Chu in the Republic of Vietnam, Patterson single-handedly destroyed a series of enemy bunkers. For his actions during the battle, he was awarded the Medal of Honor and promoted to sergeant. In the mid 1970's, Patterson, by then a staff sergeant, served as a Basic Training drill sergeant at Fort Bliss, Texas. Patterson reached the Army's highest enlisted rank, Command Sergeant Major, before retiring. Patterson currently resides in Pensacola, Florida, having moved there in 2010. |
Sergeant Patterson's official Medal of Honor citation reads:
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. Sgt. Patterson (then Sp4c.) distinguished himself while serving as a fire team leader of the 3d Platoon, Troop B, during an assault against a North Vietnamese Army battalion which was entrenched in a heavily fortified position. When the leading squad of the 3d Platoon was pinned down by heavy interlocking automatic weapon and rocket propelled grenade fire from 2 enemy bunkers, Sgt. Patterson and the 2 other members of his assault team moved forward under a hail of enemy fire to destroy the bunkers with grenade and machine gun fire. Observing that his comrades were being fired on from a third enemy bunker covered by enemy gunners in 1-man spider holes, Sgt. Patterson, with complete disregard for his safety and ignoring the warning of his comrades that he was moving into a bunker complex, assaulted and destroyed the position. Although exposed to intensive small arm and grenade fire from the bunkers and their mutually supporting emplacements. Sgt. Patterson continued his assault upon the bunkers which were impeding the advance of his unit. Sgt. Patterson singlehandedly destroyed by rifle and grenade fire 5 enemy bunkers, killed 8 enemy soldiers and captured 7 weapons. His dauntless courage and heroism inspired his platoon to resume the attack and to penetrate the enemy defensive position. Sgt. Patterson's action at the risk of his life has reflected great credit upon himself, his unit, and the U.S. Army.

(((HUGS))) to you too!
Sorry daughter was 'too tired'! Perhaps, someday, she'll know what tired REALLY is! ;)
Weather here is rather iffy...overcast with a breeze but no rain like they keep saying. (I need the lawn watered so rain would be quite welcome...water is way too expensive!)

Helpful Love
May 9, 2011
At the end of my mothers earthly journey, she and Dad were still very much in love and shared a strong faith in Christ. My mother had developed dementia and began to lose memories of even her family. Yet Dad would regularly visit her at the assisted living home and find ways to accommodate her diminished capacities.
For instance, he would take her some saltwater taffy, unwrap a piece, and place it in her mouthsomething she could not do for herself. Then as she slowly chewed the candy, Dad would quietly sit with her and hold her hand. When their time together was over, Dad, beaming with a wide smile, would say, I feel such peace and joy spending time with her.
Though touched by Dads great joy in helping Mom, I was more affected by the reality that he was depicting Gods grace. Jesus was willing to humble Himself to connect with us in our weaknesses. In reflecting on Christs incarnation, John wrote, The Word became flesh and dwelt among us (1:14). Taking on human limitations, He did countless acts of compassion to accommodate us in our weakness.
Do you know anyone who might benefit from Jesus helpful, accommodating love that could flow through you to them today?
Love is giving for the worlds needs,
Love is sharing as the Spirit leads,
Love is caring when the world cries,
Love is compassion with Christlike eyes. Brandt
To be a channel of blessing, let Christs love flow through you.
Read: John 1:9-14
The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
John 1:14

I am a wee bit concerned about a “Turf War”.
Linda has gotten extremely attached to me and very protective. Oh Well, if it doesn’t work out, so be it. That is why we are doing it on a trial basis. I adopted Linda outright, but Brandy will be a Fostering situation until we know whether or not it will work out.

HOPEFULLY, the two of them remember their time together and just continue as before. It hasn’t been that long and their keen sense may just kick in! Prayers that it’s a go!
