Napolitano: Congress must act on immigration, not states
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | May 7, 2011 | Leon Stafford

Posted on 05/08/2011 1:25:58 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

While....Janet Napolitano wouldn't comment on Georgia's Arizona-like immigration bill, she said Saturday that state legislative initiatives are not the way to address the issue.

"This is what [President Barack Obama] has said and I’ve been saying, state by state won’t cut it," Napolitano said in a speech to the Atlanta Press Club. "It’s got to be a federal reform of immigration laws."

....Brian Robinson, a spokesman for [GA Gov] Deal, said the governor agrees Congress must address the issue, but said talks in Washington fall apart because Democrats insist on amnesty. In the meantime, states are burdened with the cost associated with illegal immigration such as schools, police and health care, he said.

"We are taking action in the only way that we can," Robinson said.

Napolitano argued that illegal immigration is down 36 percent and said Homeland Security has beefed up audits of employers to catch those who hire illegally.

What troubles her is that the debate on the issue suggests the federal government is asleep at the wheel.

"I think these efforts on a state by state level first of all have predicated a falsity," she said. "The falsity is that there has been nothing done, and that the border somehow is out of control. That is incorrect."

Rep. Matthew L. Ramsey, R-Peachtree City, who introduced HB 87, said he applauds any effort the federal government has made to curb illegal immigration. But he said the fact remains that states, which have had to cut budgets across the board in one of the worst recessions in history, cannot afford to fund those who are here illegally.

"Any suggestion that states should continue to wait for the federal government to do something, with all due respect, is laughable," he said. "We have been hearing that for decades."

The only federal reforms of immigration laws needed are the following:

Speed it up; if people “check out” as far as being okay, it shouldn’t take 7-10 years to become legal. Hire more people and git ‘er done.

The 1965 Kennedy law should be repealed. There is no reason that this nation should favor 3rd worlders in immigration policy. Yes, we can take a small percentage of them, but our immigration policy MUST take the best of the best and put them at the front of the line. And “family reunification” is garbage.

So many people bring up immigration in the 1920’s as though it is some sort of example to grant amnesty now. And this is a foolish argument to make. Yes, we took in a lot of European immigrants in those days. But Europe was not then, and is not now, simply ONE UNIT.

The people who immigrated then were from all kinds of places and spoke many languages. Poles spoke Polish, Italians spoke Italian, Germans spoke German. It wasn’t as though they came here with one European language and one European culture.

What we have now is a situation in which much of Central and South America are demanding legalization. With some exceptions, they speak with one language and come from the same lawless, corrupt culture (which is why they want OUT, btw). We in America, rightfully see this as an “invasion” of our nation. And we’re not exactly digging it.

Look no further than the number of illegals from Mexico who are nailed for driving drunk. Do you know why that is? It’s because driving drunk is not a crime in Mexico.

This isn’t only a clash of language; it’s a clash of culture and the civil society.

I forwarded your teacher letter to a lot of my contacts, Tony, because it struck at my heart and I want a lot of Americans to know about it. Thanks.

1. How is it our problem? Especially if the border is secure.

2. The ATF is already sending guns, what else should we do?

Considering that Napolitano is too busy coordinating the molestation of our young children, you'd think she'd be grateful to the states for doing the job she is neglecting.

Right on!

I do not know what they think they are doing, but our legislators have been lying about enforcing the laws on the books since Kennedy passed and lied about the effects of his law. Our lawmakers lied again during the Reagan years when they gave amnesty to 2 million illegals, promising to close the borders and enforce current immigration laws. Now we have at least 20 million illegals that also want amnesty!

We don’t need “reform” of immigration laws. We need “enforcement”.

IMO, this is another polical salvo fired at America and American society. This is not a virtual political war. It IS a political war. The Dem leadership wants amnesty for illegals to secure a permanent voting block. The Dem leadership does not care what broad damage amnesty would do to their own constituents, including democrats.

Now that he's been sober 1 year, 7 months, here are some of Kennedy's lies:

"The [immigration] bill will not flood our cities with immigrants. It
will not upset the ethnic mix of our society. It will not relax the
standards of admission. It will not cause American workers to lose
their jobs."
            - Ted Kennedy, 1965

"This amnesty will give citizenship to only 1.1 to 1.3 million illegal
aliens. We will secure the borders henceforth. We will never again
bring forward another amnesty bill like this."
            - Ted Kennedy, 1986

"Now it is time for action. 2007 is the year we must fix our broken
system."
            - Ted Kennedy, 2007

This is NOT a problem for Congress. This is a problem for the EXECUTIVE. Clinton did not enforce the laws correctly, and Bush was trying to keep his share of the Hispanic vote, now Obama is not enforcing the laws so no-one has been since 1992. That has led us here.

Since U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder can’t see anything wrong with picking and choosing who he champions, we won’t have law and order coming out of the Obama Department of Justice.

To be a modern era politician post internet, and having been around running your mouth for a decade or more sure catches up to you mighty fast.

The real question is just when does the media hold legislators accountable to their record?

Of course that all depends on the media's bias and advocacy.

A city Cop anywhere in this country can arrest a person for a Federal Crime. Border jumping is a Federal Crime. “Fat Janet” again proves she is dumber than she acts or looks.

I wouldn’t hold your breath, dog. When it comes to leftists, their own media arm isn’t ever going to rat them out.

But even media types have to weigh prior public statements when reporting on new ones? Or are they just that lazy?

THE CONSTITUTION IS NOT A SUICIDE PACT!

In the absence of competent government, the state is compelled to step in to fend for itself in favor of it's very existence.

The obama regime is synonymous with tyrannical incompetence, and in it's own bumbling way has created chaos along our borders through both intentional neglect and policies conflicting with the concept of common defense and the general welfare of American citizens.
