The Candidates...
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. Hes an obstetrician-gynecologist and was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty served two terms as governor of Minnesota, from 2002 to 2010. He served in the Minnesota House from 1992 until 2002. He is the son of a truck driver.
I liked Santorum’s answer the releated social concerns withe growth of government. The man speaks the truth — problem is, about half the country is so wacked out, it’s beyond hope.
I’ve respected Santorum a LONG time on his position on abortion.
He has made a huge amount of money is up there in polls in the past and would get the independent vote. Even though I think the Independent vote would never go for Obama again.
Will America ever get a President that tells the UN to go pound sand and downsizes the IRS and federal government?
Is Johnston no longer married?
he gave off some strong vibes to me as maybe ‘gay’??
Right he is so old. I heard people that said they wouldn’t vote for McCain last election because he was too old. Paul is older than McCain!
Johnson is just weird. Dems like him so they can have him.
Rand Paul should have run instead of papa.
Her supporters deserve to know whether waiting for her is just a fool's errand or whether to look and donate elsewhere.
Agreed.
I agree son Rand would have a much better chance. Time for ‘dad’ to hang his tools up and call it quits. aging process happens, like it or not and I should know, I recently turned 68!! dang just two years shy of 70..
She died suddenly in December 2006 from "hypertensive heart disease," she was 54.
They had two children together: a son and daughter, both grown.
I'm certain none of the candidates we saw tonight will win the GOP nomination or the Presidency.
That Johnson guy was freaky.
Right- but it’s not a bad move - as every person who answers the poll, that goes over their personal newsfeeds to be seen by all of their friends and would serve to get the word out about him.
So you think some mysterious force is holding all the other conservatives out of the race so that Herman Cain can “soak up all the conservative oxygen in the race”? It is not like he’s throwing his money around buying votes like Romney or hogging air time like Trump. He goes from tea party meeting to tea party meeting, letting the people hear what he has to say. His strategy is simple, let his ideas for America do the talking. And where are all these so-called “conservatives” you mentioned? If any of the lesser known conservatives had guts, brains or any chance of winning, they would be out there right now, just like Cain, letting the voters see them and hear their policies. They would be taking advantage of the opportunities as they exist.
Were you watching the response to Cain? These are South Carolina republicans. They loved him. What on earth makes you think he “has no chance to be the nominee”? Please explain. Unless you believe that only the party elites have a right to choose the nominee.
There is well more than a year before the nomination. Just as has happened in the election years in the past, frontrunners will lose their place and some from the back of the pack will move to the front. To say that a conservative has no chance this early in the process is to show your lack of faith in the way the process works.
I look forward to hearing you explain the reason why you believe a little known conservative who is able to completely win over a group of voters once they hear his policies, can’t win.
And all we need to do is to have Jesse Ventura say he’d run with Palin to hurt Palin.
If Ventura said he’d be the VP for any Republican, would that disqualify all Republicans?
Good point. He’s been using Facebook very effectively, I think. His “likes” sure got a bump up tonight!
He really sounded like he was trying to fit too much information into too short of a time. He needs to work on being more concise, yet clear at the same time as the time allowed isn’t going to get any better...and it’s no easy thing to do.
I think Johnson was confused and thought he was at a Green Party debate.
That is heavy traction and leverage tonight!
Yes and this time in Obamas primary run he had no name recognition but he won. Well the pendullum swings both ways and Cains name is really starting to get out there. I told friends and family who know i am political junkie to watch and let me know if you like or not. they all liked..(but still waiting to hear from my mom...she is a tough ole gal but a big republican) and judging by the Luntz people poll Cain is geting recognition..they liked him, they really liked him...
