Is it time to break with Pakistan
NY Post ^ | May 4, 2011 | Peter Brookes

Amid the euphoria of Osama bin Laden's well-deserved de mise is the gut feeling Pakistan isn't shooting straight with us in the War on Terror almost 10 years after 9/11.

Where -- if at all -- does Washington go from here with Islamabad?

It's hard to stomach that the world's most renowned killer was comfortably chilling for five or more years in a pricey mansion in an army town less than 50 miles from the country's capital.

Islamabad's response to the news hasn't helped. Struggling to find a voice, Pakistan's leaders wrapped denials, concerns, congratulations and warnings into their convoluted message.

Yes, Pakistan has helped nail al Qaeda bigs such as Khalid Sheik Mohammed -- but the Osama-fiasco is only the latest in a series of problems we've had with Islamabad.

Start with the fact that, even as the Taliban starts its spring offensive against our brave troops in Afghanistan, the Taliban and al Qaeda still find safe haven in Pakistan. Top Taliban commanders even spend their winters grabbing R&R in the Pakistani city of Quetta.

While we've done a great job knocking out midlevel Taliban commanders in Afghanistan, nabbing senior leaders while they recharge in Pakistan would be a real body blow to the terror outfit.

Plus, it's no secret that most of the Taliban's supplies come from inside Pakistan, including our troops' No. 1 nemesis: IEDs.

When you are lookingto cut the Budget, Foreign aid should be looked at hard.

It doesn’t make sense to send money to people who are stabbing you in the back.

Problem is, they have nukes. We have to be invoked with them in order to keep an ee on them.

I remember reading several yrs. ago we have boots on the ground guarding their stockpile.

Of course, if you want the Chinese to control the Indian ocean.

They are already good friends with Pakistan, building bases in Africa, Yemen and Sri Lanka all far more useful to protect the sealanes than an aircraft carrier based 1,000 miles off the shipping lanes in Diego Garcia.

And, even as the article mentions, shutting off all supplies to Agfghanistan is a great if we intend to get out of that part of the world forever.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh......................

Paki is MUZZIE!!!!
Muzzie is WHY there is a Pakistan in the first place!
Muzzie can’t get along with ANYBODY—once in charge of some real estate, they start fighting each other!!
Our Taliban buddies were FOUNDED, SET UP, by Pakimuzzie’s CIA—the ISI. They did it to take over the land next door—because taking over the land next door is WHAT THEY DO!!

They will try to pretend an alliance and friendship with us just as long as the bribe money lasts.
It is WRONG to treat this bunch as ANYTHING BUT HOSTILE.

It’s not going to happen. It’s called location, location, location.....the alliance is/was one of the most important that we formed. Look at a map.

Pakistan has over 100 nukes of their own and they are making nukes faster than any other country. They have two new plutonium producing nuclear power plants just coming on line. They will be able to make maybe 10 nukes a month. Some of these nukes will eventually (not maybe, but will) make their way into the hands of terrorist groups or countries.

From now on we must live life here in the USA knowing that from time to time one of our coastal cities will be nuked and we will be under Martial Law. I hope people comprehend what this means. Our life style is about to radically change and it isn’t coming back. The nuclear gene is out of the bottle and from time to time we and others will lose a city to a nuke.

How prepared are you for the societal collapse?

The normalcy bias dictates that 98% will not prepare.

Better think about it real hard now, before it is too late.

I have done business with Paks... never met one that I could trust... despise those people. Let India nuke them into glass.

What makes you think the likes of Obama and his want to stay involved in the region?

Yes, and almost all of OUR supplies also run overland thru Pakistan, which means that as long as we have major combat units inside Afghanistan that Pakistan will have a major say.

Logistics.

"...looked at hard"?

Foreign aid and the UN are total disasters. They are sink holes for taxpayer money.

As for Pakistan. Pakistan is no friend. Pakistan is just another mussie terror state. The antidote for Pakistan can be clearly seen on a map. Take away their nukes and let India finish them off.

“It’s not going to happen. It’s called location, location, location.....the alliance is/was one of the most important that we formed. Look at a map.”

In the big picture, I would rather concede that part of the world to China or the Muzzies(they will have to fight it out eventually), strenghten my southern border and take out Venezuela. India could hold their own and they are invested heavily in America.

Reagan had it right down there.

The raging torrent of US resources which has been flowing to allies (some staunch, others... not) has to be slowed. It doesn’t work. Global politics have changed, and changed again ...repeatedly, incessantly, dramatically and so often since US foreign policy wed itself to the idea that material support for allies would keep them and US safe...that, looking at the absence of allies' support (never mind allegiance) to the US ought to weaken our position on this like nothing else!! It is time to finally discontinue a dated and wasteful policy. We MUST find a practical alternative to this and achieve our system of alliances without ruining ourselves or making ourselves ridiculous. “However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.” Winston Churchill

I agree.

A European friend told me yesterday that the North Korea isolation treatment might be appropriate for Pakistan. N.K. has nukes also but that can’t stop the rest of the world from treating them like outcasts and starving them out little by little.

Waqit a minute.

Isn’t this May 5? And didn’t Michael Lerner, “formerly” of SEIU, promise to storm J.P. Morgan Chase today with union goons, tear the place up, shut down Wall Street, and de-stabilize the markets?

I’m positive I heard that it would be today. So maybe the time has arrived!

War should have been declared on Saudi Arabia and Pakistan on 9/12/01.

Your friend is wrong no matter where he comes from.

There is only on commonality between Pakistan and NK - nukes.

Like it or not we need Pakistan. Nobody needs NK.
