Obama’s Big Bet on Ground Zero Speech
Fox News ^ | 4/11/2011 | Chris Stirewalt

It’s clear that the White House team is thinking very big when it comes to President Obama’s Thursday visit to Ground Zero, his first since taking office.

Obama invited former President George W. Bush and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to hear him speak at the former site of the World Trade Center. Bush declined, and Giuliani’s status is unclear, but those are the kinds of guests one would invite for a major political event.

Bush has a strong defense for declining. He has kept a low profile since leaving office and largely limited his public events to a promotional tour for his memoir and charity events for wounded soldiers. But by not attending, Bush denies Obama the chance to associate himself with Bush’s iconic status in the days and months after the attack.

Had Bush been on stage when Obama took his bow for ordering the strike against bin Laden, it would have allowed Obama the chance to say that he had finally fulfilled Bush’s promise made to firefighters sorting through the burning rubble that “the whole world will hear you.”

Pathetic. Bush wise not to associate with this.

Count the number of times he uses the word “I” in the speech.

Obama needs to play some Walmart parking lots first and get the speech down first...teleprompters would look bad at Ground Zero

If he keeps making this all about how great it was that HE planned and executed this operation there is going to be a massive backlash.

The folks who are mostly likely to support his decision to go ahead with this operation are also the mostly likely to know that it’s a very small man that tries to grab credit for himself rather than deflecting it and acknowledging who really did the heavy lifting.

The mark of a good leader is all the blame and none of the glory. The guy is campaigning on this. It's not what a leader does.

Not smart.

Obama is overplaying this. People can see through what he is doing.

Wonder if Michelle will be with him?

She never goes there. Before the 2008 election on the 9/11 Memorial Service, she stayed home and attended a fundraiser north of Indy.

The Obama’s actually share Rev Wright’s view that 9/11 was “America’s chickens coming home ...to Rooost!”

I have no respect for either Obama showing up at Ground Zero. If he didn’t need to get re-elected, he would not be going to Ground Zero, well, unless the mega mosque was done being constructed.

“President Obama’s Thursday visit to Ground Zero, his first since taking office”

Air Force 1 buzzed it with a low fly-by. Does that count?

I don’t expect him to do that. He wants all the credit for the campaign.

Something I heard years ago stuck with me when it comes to accomplishment, etc.

You can accomplish great things - if you are not interested in taking credit for yourself

Self aggrandizement, the hallmark of Obama is not becoming, nor are his claims true

From the article:

“Having Bush there would have helped Obama show himself, in the words of one Democratic strategist turned TV host, as “master and commander.” But Obama, who likes the chance to makes high-stakes speeches, will be swinging for the rhetorical fences anyway.”

Good grief....this is sickening. Glad Bush saw straight through the ruse. Obama as ‘master and commander’?

ROTFLOL!!

And I hope Giuliani declines, also. I dare the Marxist to ask Col Lakin.

The separation of Americans and him should be wide and made visible. He’s not one of us and may no one be conned into submitting to PC.
