President 'slept on it' as tense military chiefs awaited decision Action started the next morning when Obama declared 'it's a go' Mission delayed by one day after heavy cloud cover on Saturday night Navy seals dodged Pakistani security to reach Bin Laden's lair Outpouring of emotion on streets down to 'the same sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11' Obama told members of Congress
Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound.
Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals - who were not even told who they were preparing to capture - had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.
The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.

I have often mouthed the same question!
Precise and concise analysis.
The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.

Yes, they are wearing skirts.
You can get 1300 miles out of a Blackhawk fitted with external tanks.
Not sure about the veracity of the report, but it does fit with Obama’s notorious inability to make decisions. Think “voting present”. He just tries to appear decisive by criticizing the decisions of others.
Narcissist that he is, Obama can’t bear the though of making his own decisions and then having to live with the criticism that comes with the territory.
I’ve worked in and for the military and there is no lack of decisiveness. They are not shy about pressing the issue, even with a president.
Obama is cowering in the corner. He wants to go to a happy place like a golf course.
Amen.

One opinion of Obama could speculate that this is not the first time he had to “come back later” with a decision, as if he had to check with the shadow collective that actually makes many of his admin’s decisions.
I wonder if some future “Wikileaks” data-dump will find calls between the White House and Ayers during the 16 hour delay?
I have always seen Obama as the salesman for what his administration does, not the prime mover in anything; some collective in the shadows behind him - much better minds than his - provide the policy positions and the language for him to sell them. Then he’s sent out in front of the cameras to do his real job. Sales.
--Remember when the U.S. Navy snipers had to wait for Obama's approval to kill the Somali pirates in order to rescue Captain Phillips in April 2009?
--Remember how long Petraeus waited for a decision from Cocky-in-Chief about a troop surge in Afghanistan?
--Remember how long the American people waited for The Won to comment about the massacre-by-muslim at Fort Hood?
--Remember when a golf buddy in Hawaii was more important to Obama-on-vacation than a terrorist attempt by the "underwear bomber"?
I heard a news report yesterday that stated Zero was informed of the OBL strike at 3:50PM on Sunday. Why did he wait seven hours to let the media know he was going to have an important statement shortly and then wait yet another hour to actually give the statement?
Heck, he's not even a "present"; he's absent; he's vacant.
Actually, I'm not sure about that report.
When I held a leadership position in our military, one thing I did was to make decisions in advance when a situation seemed likely to arise. We all knew this one was likely, in particular that Osama could be well inside Pakistan. That way I didn't need more thinking time than the situation permitted when that situation came up. Anyone who belonged in our White House (including most or all of the custodial staff) had probably already reached the correct decision, and Obama hadn't even considered the question? Pathetic.
