President 'slept on it' as tense military chiefs awaited decision Action started the next morning when Obama declared 'it's a go' Mission delayed by one day after heavy cloud cover on Saturday night Navy seals dodged Pakistani security to reach Bin Laden's lair Outpouring of emotion on streets down to 'the same sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11' Obama told members of Congress
Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound.
Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals - who were not even told who they were preparing to capture - had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound.
The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.

omg
Voted present for 16 crucial hours
How much did the cloud cover have to do with delaying the mission so that those back in DC could “watch from above” in the situation room?
What a clown.
“Sleep on it sounds” like the advice of the form fornicator in chief: “Put some ice on it.” I am so relieved that our dear leader did not rush to judgment.
‘the same sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11’ Obama told members of Congress....
I congratulate our military, not you Captain Dufus!
If Osama hadn’t been at home, we’d have missed him.
I don’t fault him for it.
Osama wasn’t going anywhere, and this is an insertion mission over a mountain range into a very tentatively allied country . A whole bunch of things could have gone wrong mechanically(we lost a helicopter), tactically and politically.
If you think a leader ought to okay a world-changing action in a few minutes’ time, you haven’t ever been in those shoes.
This story is all over the place. This story says they confirmed Thursday he was in this town and this house, but the earlier news said they identified the house as a potential hiding place in August, confirmed around February, and had built a replica that the Seals practiced in for several weeks in early April. If they just confirmed he was there Thursday, how did all this preparation take place earlier.
A WH source said “It was the gutsiest nap I ever saw”.
"On the one hand, my popularity will go up. On the other, the Islamic world loses one of its greatest freedom fighters. Hmmm... decisions, decisions."
16 hrs? Sounds like he may have slept AND golfed on it.
He took Meatloaf’s advise.
Ima sleep on it.
I’ll give you my answer in the morning.
Heaven forbid it.
But we're talking about Obama here.
"I know what $#%&*! time it is there and you wake that #&!*&# little sob up. NOW."
16 hour not bad, so what, they killed him, it’s not like he left durning that time.
You do know they never even saw him there till the mission took place, it not like they had photos and were even 100% sure he was there.
This sound like the folks complaining about Bush finished reading the childrens Book on 911
I was thinking the same thing. This wasn’t an easy call. And didn’t we have eyes on the target? So I don’t think he was going anywhere.
Too many knew Obama had been found and Osama couldn’t avoid having to do something.
Obama had to sleep on it.
He did make certain that he received a fill muslim burial service.
The President fo the 911 Families Peter Gadiel is very upset that OBama received a proper religious burial.
He was on KFI just now with with Bill Caroll.
