Birthers, buffoonery and a sad discourse
The Washington Post ^ | April 29 | Kathleen Parker

Posted on 05/01/2011 9:45:04 AM PDT by Tex-Con-Man

If you really, really dislike Barack Obama, his long-form birth certificate, finally proffered in exasperation, is quite simply a counterfeit.

If you are a fan of the president — or even a respectful critic — you are relieved finally to have rid the country of the plague of “birtherism,” the rabid belief that Obama wasn’t born in this country and isn’t constitutionally qualified to be president.

To whichever group one claims membership, one can’t help wondering when exactly we lost our minds.

...

Yes, obviously. Trump resurrected the birther cause and breathed new life into it. But it wasn’t only to end the debate that Obama sent for his certificate. According to the vineyard, it was also to prevent other Republican candidates from looking sane by comparison to Trump.

...

In a saner time, Trump would be dismissed as the carnival barker Obama implied he is. People would have recognized Trump as a self-aggrandizing megalomaniac and put a period at the end of the sentence. Not remotely would his name be followed with this phrase: “who is leading other Republican candidates in polls.”

...

Alas, there is no reasoning with the unreasonable, too many of whom these days seem to self-identify as Republicans or conservatives. This is as Democrats would have it, needless to say, but no one is served by our national descent into silliness. Sadly missing on the Republican side is the leveling voice of the grown-up who will say not only that he takes Obama’s word (and the clear evidence), but that the Republican Party won’t tolerate further discussion. Case closed.

This is a sad but accurate analysis of the state of contemporary conservatism.

Looks like Kathleen Parker has finally decided to swim the River Styx to the other side. Although she probably would have said much the same thing in the National Review.

Bye, bye, Kathleen. Lot’s of luck over there!

What’s sad is both Obama and Trump and carnival Barkers.
Snake Oil Salesmen, Self-aggrandizing megalomaniac’s.

Bahh! Run them both off I say.

That is disgusting - why the hell are we supposed to just shut up and take Obama's word for anything? He is a serial liar. I seriously do not believe that there will even BE a Republican Party in five years - bunch of "politics as usual" back-stabbing phoneys. They do not represent the people anymore.

I partially agree in that conservatives were unable to rid themselves of McCain before the 2008 primaries. The GOP screwed themselves in 2008. What if we enlarge that scale to talk about the sanity of the Nation? In a saner time Obummer would be serving coffee for President Hillary.
If we had a press corp rather than a press corpse; we would be in a saner time. Beware the words of the WAPO.

“This is a sad but accurate analysis of the state of contemporary conservatism.”

All of this is an even bigger indictment of contemporary ‘journalism’. If the MSM had done the job that it has traditionally been entrusted with, we wouldn't have people like Trump raising issues that have never been thoroughly addressed.

How many here actually believe anymore that the MSM are pro-American? How many here truly believe that all elected to the House or the Senate are pro-American? How many here actually believe that you can trust this administration and liberals in this country to do what is best for the future of your children? These are not conspiratorial issues. They are very, very real questions, and the future of our children and our nation rest upon the answers to them.

I honestly no longer feel that I live in a free country, and I no longer think of our press as generally much different from Soviet era Pravda.

I agree with you.

The birth certificate is over. Obviously everyone is either too scared to face it head on, or is complicit in the scheme. I am a professional graphic designer who has been in the field for over 20 years and over the weekend I took a good long look at that BC. It is a forgery. Not only a forgery, but a badly done forgery. People can scream about "layers" all they want. That is only ONE part of what is wrong with that digital forgery. So all that aside, what happens now? Well, nothing. This is Obama giving all of us the middle finger and saying, "Ha ha! F*** you people! What are you gonna do about it?"

My question for everyone here is... what are we going to do to make sure he is sent packing in 2012? Are we going to sit around until the last minute and then start whining about how our state presidential primaries are open to Independent voters? That the press and the so-called "Independents" chose our Republican candidate? That the RINOS like Ms. Parker et al have sold their souls and continue to pretend to represent us? That we were robbed by the MSM?

I say we have a lot of work to do. And we are quickly running out of time. We need to quit whining about the game being stacked against us and figure out a way to make it into a new game.

I think Parker is far to dismissive of the issue and misses the point completely.

While I myself am not a Birther, It is because I think it’s small potatoes compared to the crimes that Obama is committing before our very eyes.

Parker piece comes off as painting Birthers as crazy and she just accepts Obamas BS COLB for fact while ignoring that people have justifiable concerns that since his father was Kenyan he may well not be a NBC under the letter of the law.

I personally would rather not wrestle with legal minutia.
Obama is undermining the US Constitution and I believe we should document his crime, then feed them to him in court. Or the Ballot box.

......the rabid belief that Obama wasn’t born in this country and isn’t constitutionally qualified to be president.....

There you have it, boys. Living proof that if one spends enough money, you can change anything.
(a) The millions went to convince everyone that a "Native Born Citizen," = "Natural Born Citizen."
(b) All that was required then, was "proof" that Obama had been born in Hawaii to an American citizen mother. This "proved" he was a "Native born Citizen," which BTW, is ALL HE has ever claimed.
(c)His "proof" was dramatically witheld, building tension that only our leader could release. And now, release it he has!

Result. Now, enough people to win an election believe "that born in Hawaii," qualifies one to run for and assume the office of the President.

No man could do this alone. Our elected representatives at every level, our courts at every level, our Media, and our President had to work together to make this happen.

"Alas, there is no reasoning with the unreasonable, too many of whom these days seem to self-identify as Republicans or conservatives. "

Just release the true long form and unseal ALL records that have been restricted to the public.

If the "I WON" has nothing to hide, why is he hiding?

I for one realize just today how patriotic Obama’s father was. I didn’t know that Obama’s father served in WWII when he was approximatley 10 years old. Now how can we diss someone with a heritage such as that.
My goodness, my ancestors fought in wars going to Civil War and beyond, but I don’t even have anyone that fought at the age of 10 years old in a war.
ha ha ha
