In October 2009, Boeing, long one of the best corporations in America, made an announcement that changed the economic outlook of South Carolina forever: The company's second line of 787 Dreamliners would be produced in North Charleston.
In choosing to manufacture in my state, Boeing was exercising its right as a free enterprise in a free nation to conduct business wherever it believed would best serve both the bottom line and the employees of its company. This is not a novel or complicated idea. It's called capitalism.
Boeing has since poured billions of dollars into a new, state-of-the art facility in South Carolina's picturesque Low Country along the Atlantic coast. It has created thousands of good jobs and joined the long tradition of distinguished and employee-friendly corporations that have found a home, and a partner, in the Palmetto State.
This a win-win for South Carolina, for Boeing, and for the global clients who will see Dreamliners rolling off the North Charleston line at the rate of 10 a month, starting with the first one next year. But, as is often the case, a win for people and businesses is a loss for the labor unions, which rely on coercion, bullying and undue political influence to stay afloat.
South Carolina is a right-to-work state, and we're proud that within our borders workers cannot be required to join a labor union as a condition of employment. We don't need unions playing middlemen between our companies and our employees. We don't want them forcefully inserted into our promising business climate. And we will not stand for them intimidating South Carolinians.

Boeing should announce if the US interferes with their right to free trade they will appeal to the World Trade Organization and if that fails, will build overseas to MUCH press and fanfare.
Boeing should threaten to shut down all US manufacturing in Washington AND South Carolina and move all operations - including corporate headquarters - to China if the feds don’t back off.
What’s Obama going to do - order GM to start building jets?
The President of the United States using his power to reward his friends and punish his enemies and usurping the decisions of private enterprise.
The Audacity of ....err...Crooks.
South Carolina should be raising holy hell about this.
Nikki Haley sounds like a tough leader.
She was elected governor in November 2010 but her election didn’t get a lot of attention. Her election should have been hailed as a step forward for women in politics. She’s not only a woman, but an ethnic minority. She is of Indian descent; her parents are Indians from India. So her election should have been celebrated by women’s groups as a giant step forward for “women of color” or whatever the politically correct term is.
Why didn’t you hear all about Nikki Haley’s election and the steps forward for women in politics she represents? Probably because she is an “evil Republican” rather than a “good Democrat”.
Boeing should announce the closing of all union plants nationwide. That’ll shut them up.
Corporatist Central planning at its finest.
Still think business will ever come back to the US?
Along with this action, comes the passport application shenanigans. Strange times indeed.
Boeing might just do that, but maybe not China.
The demonrat party punishes American industry to the point that they move offshore in order to stay in business. Then the demonrats publicly admonish those same companies for being unpatriotic for leaving this country.
The dims cannot be trusted with this country.
They are the enemy within.
I’m sure that China would be delighted if Boeing’s CEO was to go to Beijing and tell them that the entire corporation wished to defect.
Yeah, electric jets. They'll call them "In your dreams liners"
Boing should announce that depending on the results of the 2012 presidential election, it may move ALL of it’s manufacturing out of the U.S.
I like Nikki for being a republican and a conservative. She also took on Obama on Obamacare on his face at the Governor’s meeting he had a while ago. Certainly sounds like a STRONG lady. Good for her, good for red states, good for conservatives.
Hahahahahaha....that is a funny line.
Chevy Volt engine on the plane wings. You can charge it in the garage.
A plane that can go 35 miles on a single charge. Obama will be proud.
“...- order GM to start building jets?...”
My gosh, man, have you no decency?
GM’s still trying to build a good car.
(Corvettes excepted......)
