When I was a kid, the schools had an effective treatment for ADHD. The delivery system was made of environmentally friendly wood applied to the bottom as needed.

It was 100% effective.

If you are talking about the part where people with TS speak whatever comes to mind, I wouldn’t mind that either. I think I have come across some FR posters with it already so we could join the club. Post whatever nonsense and never back it up then attack anyone that tries to correct the nonsense they posted.

I’m still distracted by the shiny Obama birth certificate and can’t focus on inflation or Quantitative Easing.

Poor Sleep hygiene?

Staying up late
Drinking caffeine in evening
Reading or watching TV in bed
Worrying about problems in bed
Burning candle at both ends
Waking up a lot to go pee
Shift work

I’d read the article but my attention span is too short.

Personally I think that the medical terms ‘bipolar’ and ADHD are phony in and of themselves. I do not claim to be an expert though, I am only stating the impression I get from the new outburst I have seen of people (and kids) claiming to have these conditions and being medicated.

I wish that were true. I have a son who is bipolar, and when his medications are not right, life is he** around the house. He is going through puberty right now, and that throws everything off. I've had to have him locked up twice to get things straightened up. It's not safe for him or my family when he is in that state. He is totally irrational, and bounces from depression to violent to happy. He can go from an insane violence to being sound asleep in two minutes.

I would willingly give my left arm if it would make him better. When he is not cycling, he's the sweetest boy I know.

This is kind of like the guy who has 10 children by 5 baby mamas while living on disability at age 33 for a bad back.

Adult attention issues are much more likely to be related to:

How about C.A.P.D.? Very real and much more likely triggered by the technology advances the past several decades. Judge we live in the same area. I spend 7th and 8th grade in a now closed rehab school in your city. Back then {late 60's & early 70's} they thought I might have had ADD ADHD but my symptoms were more complicated.

CAPD stays with you for life and the Vestibular and Visual sensory processing system is damaged. A good Audiologist and even some Occupational therapist can pick up on it. Shrinks usually can not however.

For what ever the reason the initial damage was done be it chronic ear infections or birth defects many times concentration is limited and the behavioral symptoms in a classroom can mimic ADD ADHD. But C.A.P.D. is actually senosry processing damage which can be auditory, visual, or both effected. The behavioral symptoms are in effect a result of sensory overload even though the person may not be aware of it.

The thing of it is caffeine won't change the symptoms as they will in ADD ADHD. But a TV show with high action and flashing or strobing special effects can trigger it. These show up a lot more in TV cartoons, some video games, or even certain enviromental noises like high or low frequency sounds can trigger it. These kids will often have poor eye-muscle coordination as well and things like their feet will become deformed from an off balance gait in some cases. Playing baseball rather than swing and hit they often duck away, swing late, or too early. They can not track the ball and react.

Going to D.A.R.C. a couple of years bought me about 20 years more before disability. But modern psychriatrity about killed me till I found the answers based on my life long medical history. In general ADD ADHD is very over diagnosed and C.A.P.D. is often never considered. If I had a kid with learning and attention issues I'd take them to an Audiologist for C.A.P.D. first and a shrink the very last.

I've had these issues all my life and I'm in my early 50's now. In my case for some reason seizure activity also comes with it and that was when I finally had to take disability. What may seem a fad epidemic of ADD ADHD may well be simply a modern technology induced enviromental sensory overload for some.

Kids are kids and all people are different. I have known many people who act that way and sometimes they change as well. That is life. Learning how to control yourself and how to behave are a part of life.

I personally do not believe it constitutes a medical condition though. And unfortunetaly once kids or adults are told that their behavior is not their fault and is a medical condition instead, then their natural growth is stunted because they are told they are not responsible to learn how to behave.

Of course all of this is great business for the medical and pharmaceutical industries but it is sad for those who become stunted because of it.

There have always been problem kids, problem adults and people who struggle with self-control and behavior.

Of course I am not saying that for some people that there are not underlying biological causes as well, there very well may be. I am also not claiming that some of the medications involved may not even be beneficial. I do not know but I am highly suspicious of these of bipolar and ADHD and the over medication of societies children.

“enviromental sensory overload for some.”

You may be on to something there. Pre-TV and now video games may trigger a problem that would have shown up rarely in previous days.

Take it back further
Before the invention of the light bulb
Insomnia was almost rare
Now we stare at a Freeper Page
at 1AM, with the macula being washed by bright light
mimicking daylight, so nesting instinct do not kick it

I can watch older cartoons vintage 60's and older and TV shows early 70's and older with not much problem. I can take a trip to a Walmart at about 7:00pm and I want the hell out of there now because of their way too loud P.A. system. Driving through a wooded area in the winter where the sunlight strobes through the trees sets it of so I wear good sunglasses. Certain telephone ring tones will do it also. On good days I have fair concentration on bad ones 15 minutes a day is it.

If I don't limit my exposures to the triggers then I start having Myoclonic Seizures meaning my upper torso from shoulder blades up goes spastic. After that if I don't get it stopped I go into a brain fog which is no fun at all especially driving on the interstate or busy street. {meaning loosing senses of where am I, how did I get here, what time is it, how long have I been driving, and where the heck am I going LOL} It won't kill you but the first few times it happens will scare you a good one LOL. That hasn't happened in a long time though because through medication I learned to head it off usually. At home I can control my enviroment completely as far as triggers.

I’ve been a night owl most of my life because my sleep is best that way. But I do sleep in a darkened room though. I used to work nights and did better at work doing so. It works out for the best because I can shop later etc at night without all the noise.

I went to school with a kid who was bipolar for a couple of years and your description is pretty real accurate. One minute he's be laughing the next cussing up a storm. Seeing as how the kids dad was a preacher I don't think it was any lack of discipline.

Later when I went in the Navy a guy in my shop I now understand was bipolar. I know that now by learning the disorders symptoms. The guy didn't get help he got a Bad Conduct Discharge and baited by idiots who liked to see him go off. He went from near 4.0 military evals to that in a matter of months. His mood changed almost in a matter of seconds sometimes for no reason.

CONFIRMED:

One in 19 Americans today gets SSDI or SSI. That's one in 19 Americans who are "disabled."
