WASHINGTON (AP)—For the first time, American women have passed men in gaining advanced college degrees as well as bachelor's degrees, part of a trend that is helping redefine who goes off to work and who stays home with the kids.

Census figures released Tuesday highlight the latest education milestone for women, who began to exceed men in college enrollment in the early 1980s. The findings come amid record shares of women in the workplace and a steady decline in stay-at-home mothers.

Wonder what that made those feminists’ mothers who stayed home who parasitically fed off their husbands’?

Sorry, awarding such advanced degrees solves the important problem of not enough women with advanced college degrees.

EdD does not count as an advanced degree. I don’t care what they say.

It must be neat for the pretty girls, who can always rely on marrying rich husbands, to have the freedom to enjoy 4 or more years pursuing such fluff degrees. I on the other hand spent my college years juggling classes, an unpaid internship, a part-time job, and performing community service hours, living off two for a dollar food bargains.

I graduated with a B.Sc. in 1975 in a profession that requires passing a certification exam every 6 years.

My first certification tests in 1975 and 1981 were tough but I managed to pass. Then I noticed the numbers of women and minorities in my profession were exploding in the late 70’s and early 80’s. This trend has continued.

Since then, passing my certification tests has been a breeze. The dumbing down to accomodate protected “minorities” who can’t cut it continues full speed ahead.

We are so screwed.

Can you still get a Masters or PhD in advanced underwater basket weaving these days?

"Except in the hard sciences, engineering, and mathematics."

I think women outnumber men in medical school, hardly and easy task, what with the math, micro, chemistry, biology, anatomy, etc and the various labs to go with it.....

Hey, don't make so much fun of those PhDs. I had a very interesting conversation with a cabbie in Madistan who held one in medieval philosophy.

... underwater basket weaving ...

The first time I ever heard of this term was in today's NYT daily Xword. One answer was EASYA, and the clue referred to the endings of four other answers: KNUCKLEUNDER, TREADSWATER, BREADBASKET, and SPELLWEAVING, for the exemplar.

Is this a coincidence ?

I saw a comedian on TV a few years ago who said he had received a degree in philosophy, and went on to work for a major philosophy corporation ... “We didn’t have any customers, but we knew why.”

But just remember, folks. Women are still oppressed, underpaid compared to men, and they need all kinds of “extra” laws to protect them, like Title IX and VAWA. /sarc

What’s really interesting is that the higher a degree a woman attains the less likely a man is to marry her.

That might explain the phenomenon that fertility and intelligence tend to be negatively correlated.

I heard Michael Medved saying last week or so that a study back in the 1960s seemed to show a relationship between breast size and IQ. How many hot chicks do you see getting PhDs?
