(McDonald's beating victim) Transgender Hate Crime Draws Attention to MD Legislation
Ms. Magazine ^ | 25 April

A transgender woman was beaten by two women in a Maryland McDonalds after using the restaurant's women's bathroom. Chrissy Polis said that no employees intervened when the women began pulling her by the hair, throwing her to the floor, and kicking her repeatedly. The incident was recorded on tape, and police have arrested the young women. Transgender activists have scheduled a rally tonight outside of the McDonalds where the incident occurred to show support for the victim.

"This is precisely the kind of hatred and bigotry that transgender women and men deal with on a daily basis," said Caroline Temmerand of the GLBT Community Center of Central Maryland.

A 2011 national report on transgender Americans found that 53% of respondents "reported being verbally harassed or disrespected in a place of public accommodation," with 3% of respondents reporting physical assault in a retail store and 2% reporting assault in a hotel or restaurant.

Earlier this month, the Maryland state Senate killed a bill, called the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act, which would have outlawed discrimination against trans people in housing, employment, and public accommodation.

There are currently 11 states with hate crime laws which protect people victimized on the basis of gender identity or expression. In 2009, President Obama signed the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act in the FY2010 Defense Authorization Bill, which was the first federal law to recognize and provide civil rights protections for transgender people.

Since it is already illegal to beat someone up, and the law didn’t protect this victim, passing another law to cover the situation seems redundant.

Statists believe the millennium is always one new law away.

If the victim had fought back and injured the thugs, the Left would call it a Hate Crime and would use the incident to advance their agenda.

As it turned out, the victim was not able to fight back, and the thugs went all medieval, and now the Left calls it a Hate Crime and uses the incident to advance their agenda.

Uh-oh. It "Draws Attention."

Let me know when it "Raises Questions."

So called ‘hate crimes’ legislation violates the constitution by affording protection for certain groups while not providing due process for all.

For what it’s worth, the victim was a man, not a woman. If you are born with a penis, you are a man regardless of whether or not you have it surgically removed.

Excuse me, but how do you tell the difference between a “Transgendered Woman” and a pervert dressed like a woman to gain access to the woman’s bathroom?

Quite the conundrum when one protected class beats down another. From what I read, the girl beat the transgender because it was flirting with her boyfriend. Seems to me the woman wouldn't have been jealous if she'd known it was a guy flirting with her boyfriend. So it's more than likely she thought he was a girl, so no hate crime, just crime.

There is no such thing as a “transgender woman”. This person is a mutilated man with serious mental problems.

This bill is not needed since there are laws against assault or attempted murder already on the books.
Gays (people of some third sex) should not get special treatment or extra laws against others for them in the name of political correctness.

unless you want to remove the rights of those who are not members of a politically correct victim group....which is exactly that the worthless vermin of Ms Magazine want to do.

I had the extreme misfortune of finding an old copy of this magazine at my local library. For the sake of your mental health I would strongly recommend avoiding the articles on sex and reproduction. One of them even brought a ten year old girl “into the fold”.

This is a caucasion hate crime not a transgender hate crime. The left conveniently ignores the racial componant of the crime.

By mandatory inspection of genitalia at the bathroom door. That should clear up any doubt.

Court records show that Brown was involved in a previous confrontation with a woman on July 27, 2010, at the same McDonald's on Kenwood Avenue.

Was that person a transgender?

Vicky Thoms, who was hit in the face as she stepped between Chrissy Polis and the two teens

Was that person a trandgender?

Maryland is a dump. Salisbury, MD is the seventh mopst volent city in America.

6. Most Dangerous Cities in America: Salisbury, Maryland (Pop. 28,800) Total Violent Crime Rate: 22.33 --Murder/Manslaughter: 0.07 --Forcible Rape: .69 --Robbery: 6.88 --Aggravated Assault: 14.69

Were most of those victims transgender?

Hmmm... Maybe the GLTW community is full of balony. Maybe it had nothing to do with being transgender.

The idea of everyone being equal before the law went out in the '60s, with the advent of affirmative action and racial preferences. After generations of de facto (and sometimes de jure) discrimination against non-whites, the government started to discriminate against whites (and sometimes against Asians). Everyone is equal, but some are more equal than others.

Hate crimes legislation furthers the notion that some victims are more equal than other victims.

Sean Hannity had a couple of people on at the end of his show Monday evening discussing this tape. There was a black women (didn't catch her name) who thought the beating would be considered a misdemeanor. I don't know if she would have felt the same way if it had been several white teenagers going after a black woman.

Next maybe some judge will order all fast food outlets to have three restrooms—one for men, one for women, and one for transgender/transvestite persons.
