Truth or Consequences? Sounds like Truth AND consequences.

The poor woman. Must’ve been terrifying and awful.

All animals are God’s creatures, and I’m reluctant to see any of God’s creatures destroyed. That said, all pit bulls should be killed, or kept in captivity. They are too dangerous to be around humans. We don’t let tigers roam the streets, why should we let pit bulls roam the streets?

New Mexico State Police officials were conferring with the local District Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges are warranted.

No, I'd say that the dead woman's estate should pay for the loss of these dogs. After all, the little bowsers were probably provoked.(\sarc)

I just can't imagine any city allowing anyone to keep these feral animals behind fences, in their yards, or anywhere around humans.

1) Large and/or aggressive breed of dog? Yes. Pit bulls.
2) Running loose, often >1 running loose? Yes. A pack of four out looking to raise hell.
3) Prior reports of running loose and/or aggression? Not reported.
4) Unrealistic expectation of gentleness in regards to the dog from dog owner, often despite #3 above? If they were where they could all break out and run loose - yes.

I support criminal charges. Four pit bulls who, if they broke out, would (and did) hunt down and kill a woman walking down the street - are a deadly weapon left unattended and unsecured by the two moron pit bull owners in question.

Hope the owners incur ‘consequences’. . .seemed ‘iffy’ by story as of writing. This is truly horrible and pathetic.

The pit-bull breeder and druggies will say she ask for it. Shoot the owner and let the dogs eat him.

There was a report on a local radio station last week that a pit bull in our area was killed by a deputy sheriff after the officer went to investigate complaints by neighbors.

They are dangerous animals to own and should be allowed to be killed by anyone threatened by them if they stray from their own property or if not kept in control by the owners.

The hype about Pit Bulls is just that, hype. There is a large population of Pit Bulls but as a percentage of their population they bite and kill less than many other large dogs. Take a look.

Other dog populations (United States):

(estimation) Pit Bulls: 5,256,000

(estimation) Rottweilers: 900,000

(estimation) German Shepherds: 780,000

(estimation) Chows: 240,000

Fatal attacks by these breeds of dogs (1979-1998):

Pit Bulls: 66

Rottweilers: 39

German Shepherds: 17

Chows: 8

When we divide the population by the fatal attacks, we can get a percentage based on the dogs probability of fatally attacking a human.

Pit Bulls: .00125 %

Rottweilers: .00433 %

German Shepherds: .00217%

Chow: .00333%

In other news:

Owner cuts throat of pit bull that chased girls

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

The Associated Press
A Westmoreland County man says he did what he thought had to be done when he slit the throat of his dog last month after it got loose and chased two young girls.

Thirty-one-year-old Stanton Spaugy waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday on animal cruelty charges stemming from the March 11 death of his 7-month-old pit bull.

State police say the Loyalhanna Township man cut the dog’s throat with a hunting knife and left it to die on the front seat of his truck.

Mr. Spaugy says he killed the dog only after it turned on him. He says it had broken free once before and was endangering neighborhood children.
