The most recent New York Times/CBS News poll finds that the current crop of Republican presidential hopefuls is suffering from an identity crisis.
This was a national poll and was conducted with a total pool of 1,116 registered voters and 525 registered Republicans. The poll finds that 90% of GOP voters did not know enough the candidates.
For instance, they could not offer opinions on former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, former Utah governor and U.S. ambassador to China Jon Huntsman.
57 percent of Republicans participating could not name a possible challenger to Obama that would make them enthusiastic and motivated to work for the candidate.
When asked which potential Republican candidate for president they like best, only 9 percent selected former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney while former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee received a mere 8 percent.
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was viewed the least favorable. Among Republicans polled however, 50 percent view her favorably compared with 26 percent who view her unfavorably.
No one has captured the imagination or enthusiasm of the GOP. The fact is that there is no Tea Party. There is no nationwide organization and no Tea Party candidates.
A lack of leadership has led to people like Donald Trump to make the Republican Party look like a sideshow. Donald Trump is not serious candidate for president of the United States. He is a media master and public relations machine.
The Republican Party has allowed itself to get bogged down on non-issues like Obama's birth certificate and Republican lawmakers who seem to have more of an affinity for the non-Party Tea Party than the Party to which they were elected.
The longer fringe and divisive "Republican" candidates are out there defining the party the more likely that Obama will get re-elected.

We do. They need to resolve their cranial-rectal issues and get solidly behind Sarah Palin.
If Sarah get the republican nomination she will be Obamas waterloo.
See my tagline -— but then I would go for Herman Cain/ Col. Alan West (the NAALCP would get their BOXERS in a bunch!)
So was Obama a household name before the 2004 Democratic Convention? Nobody knew who he was before he made that speech that set the news media all a twitter.
The election is quite a ways off yet.
I view Trump as a new convert, and yes he does have the fire, and thus the potential. He does need to be brought up to speed on who the voters are (he needs to get to “flyover country), as he should. I suspect that he can get a lot of ground with small business owners - as would Herman Cain for that matter. And yes, we should also get to Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Herman Cain, and whoever else. I would love so see a 2012 Republican Primary loaded with competent conservative candidates who have the fire to undo the damage by Barry Dunham. And may the best one win the nomination. Then send Barry back to Chicago.
Reagan was a liberal democrat before he came to conservatism. He was a firm supporter of FDR and the New Deal. He was also a television entertainer before going into politics. I won't call you delusional, just uninformed.
Cain, West, Palin, Bachmann... I could sleep well voting for any one, in any combination.
Trump ran for President in 2000 on Perot’s party ticket.. short lived but ...
Trump has more incommon with Bill Clinton than Reagan!!
If Trump were to win the Nomination, I may go FISHING~~
I really don't care what you do partner. I really don't. You go fishing.
GOOD—The RINOs need to move over to the Democrats where they belong or form a Moderate Wishy washy 3rd party (Like they did in England). THE GOP MUST CHANGE or become like the Whigs of long ago.
Maybe already HAVE done it..
Rove, Crankhammar, Crystal and other pundits are obviously "progressives"..
As well as, Bush(s), the Clintoons, Obama and McLame..
The Pauls, DeMint, and Paul Ryan are called "excessives" and "extreme".. by them..
Except for the TpCaucus we might be screwed..
Most Tpartyiers don't consider themselves Tpartyiers..
Some do but most don't..
ALL polls are propaganda..
especially polls about Tpartyiers..
vaudine
He’ll run third party, if the GOP prefers. ;-)
It is an emergency situation. Social issue RINOS are not going to save the republic.
Dunno ‘bout Trump, but GO Tea Party! Whip those RINOs!
I’ll Take Palin any day over the junk like Romney and Huckabee and Pawlenty and Daniels. There are some good people and the GOP doesn’t want them to win like Bachmann, Palin, Herman Cain, Jim DeMint, Allen West, Scott Walker and Bobby Jindal. All the GOP has done is attack the exact candidates and people who could win and do well.

“Donald Trump and the Tea Party Are Hijacking the Republican Party.”
Good. I can’t say I’m a trump fan, but anyone who can simultaneously upset the dems and gop has something going for them.
“We have idiots running the GOP.”
That is a shameful and uncalled for slur against idiots.
Wah-wah! Ga-ga! Goo-goo! I want my spineless weasel party back from those meanies who actually give a damn about America and American Prosperity! Wah!
Sick to death of spineless republocants!
