WASHINGTON -- Two Illinois Republicans said Sunday they aren't buying the Obama administration's argument that the federal debt limit ought to be raised without a fuss.
"I will vote 'no' on raising the debt ceiling unless we have comprehensive, dramatic, effective, and broad-based cuts to federal spending including the reform of entitlement spending," said Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) on CBS's "Face the Nation."

Republicans are in a powerful position to get major spending cuts if they stick together and are resolute about not raising the debt ceiling.
I do not believe the fear tactics that are being used that by not raising the debt ceiling there would be armageddon.
On the contrary it would force our government to make the really tough decisions they have been postponing for decades re major government spending cuts.

Nor do I. But the complicit, leftist media is good at convincing the masses that it will, which will could lead to those congresscritters w/o a spine to vote for the raise.
“The FIX is in” just like it always is.
The fight by RINOs was tremendous (fake) and many had battle scars to show (lots of wet and soiled underwear) but came through the “battle” with just enough blood left in them to COMPROMISE our future away.
Was the outcome in anyone’s mind in doubt? Of course the debt ceiling was going to be raised, no matter what.
But you have to give the GOP credit, that was a really good fake battle they played out.
Republicans, the party of compromise and “go along to get along.”
Anyone with common sense can realize that when you reduce spending you negate the requirement to raise your debt ceiling. These Republican idiots (traitors) are saying that they will go along with the Ponzi scheme if somehow some cuts are made in spending and at the same time a new pile of money is generated by increased taxing of the sheeple that put them into office.
We are at a tipping point and once over the top, we will never recover.
This bunch has never been media savy. They should know that it would be in (.)bama’s hands as to what priority he would fund programs given no opportunity to sell more debt. Someone who wished to come to an agreement would be buying time while funding things from tax receipts and the huge cushion of already written IOUs in the various “trust funds”. Of course, this clown will not as he will pick the most popular and voter intensive programs loke SS and Medicare to stop funding. The GOP, or conservatives, need to get out in front of that and have him state on the record now how he plans to prioritize spending given a “crisis”. Of course, none of them do. Maybe they cannot get a microphone in front of him ont he golf course or at one of his many re election fund raisers he is on. Maybe The Oprah can ask him!
If the debt ceiling is raised democrats increase spending. If it is not raised democrats increase spending and blame republicans. How do democrats not hold all the cards?
————it seems reducing spending will negate the need to raise the debt ceiling———
That is true but the debt involves not only growth from additional voluntary spending, but growth of involuntary spending. One element of involuntary spending is interest. Some believe there is a short term problem with increased interest rates on the debt that must be renewed/ rolled over that will more than offset the reduced spending.
In my view, the situation is so complex and variable there is no guaranteed course to resolution. Inflation has been decided to be the resolution. Therefore, prepare your self to ride out the inflation
I would like to believe that the whigs would wield their advantage to the mutual benefit of all Americans. We know the Tea Party candidates would.
Yet somehow, as I see John "BooHoo" Boehner in my minds eye, I notice he hasn't bothered to pull his pants up as of the last budget negotiations. In fact, he looks like he's smiling...
They don’t hold all the cards...the only card they have in this game is the media. If the debt ceiling is not raised, they cannot increase spending, they can just prioritize what they will spend on a pay as you go basis, everyone below the line gets an IOU, a worthless one in fact unless receipts are raised or the debt ceiling is increased to cover those expenses deemed below the line by the “executive”. First on the list to pay, the interest, next up would be up to the payor unless directed otherwise by the Congress and that is not going to happen with the dems in charge in the Senate and bozo in charge in the whitehouse. Look for some such as we cannot pay military pay or Social Security or some such which the Media will lap up and ram up the ass of the Conservatives 24/7. A media interested in being even in its approach would lay out how the priorities are drawn, why they are beyond what can be funded, but no, this one will castigate the Conservatives.
I cannot stomach RINOs like Kirk, McInsane, the Witches of Maine, and Grayed Ham, but if they really do stick together on the debt limit issue, it will be a good day for our Republic.
Indubitably.
With weak, effete, milquetoast Crybaby Boehner "leading them", they don't have a chance.
