In the two years since Barack Obama took office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ramped up its Project Gunrunner and Operation Fast and Furious gun trafficking sting operations, drug war homicides in Mexico nearly tripled, according to an article published over the weekend by Global Research.
This revelation comes coincidentally to the publication of the transcript of an interview on Univision, made available today by independent blogger Mike Vanderboegh, one of two men responsible for uncovering the Project Gunrunner controversy.
Figures quoted by the Global Research article come from the Trans-Border Institute at the University of San Diego. They appear in a report titled Drug Violence in Mexico: Data and Analysis Through 2010, and show that the body count has risen sharply at the same time that the Obama State Department has allowed private arms sales to Mexico exceed those to Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel. My colleague, Kurt Hofmann takes a hard look at those arms sales here.
But Hofmann doesn’t really discuss the number of dead Mexicans piling up during the same period that the ATF Gunrunner and Fast-and-Furious operations were allegedly allowing hundreds, if not thousands, of guns get funneled into the illicit arms pipeline. This was happening after Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and then others, were pointing fingers of blame at gun shops in the southwest, gun shows and this country’s allegedly “lax” gun laws.

This study will be cited as proof that gun control reduces homicide rates ... except that in this case 100% of the guns we’re talking about were put in criminal’s hands. So as usual the “if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns” applies in spades.

I think you’re missing the point. Sure, the ATF knew that all along (the real source of most of the weapons.)
They WANTED more American-source weapons in Mexico WHILE the murders were going up (for any reason, from any source.)
They wanted to show their own bogus causation: “See, murder is up in Mexico, and look at all those American weapons.”
That was the real point of Gunrunner. It had NOTHING to do with “making cases against the cartels,” which was only a lame cover story from the start.
They have done a lot of damage and caused a lot of pain and justice should be served. Unfortunately, that likely isn't a given outcome any more.

I agree, but I still think it will be cited in the dinosaur media for the reason I gave. Come to think of it, the fact the argument is specious only increases the chances that the argument will be cited by those entities, which I hold in utter contempt.
Yes, Obamajad and his Homeland Security were delivering guns straight into the hands of criminals instead of in the hands of citizens to defend themselves and their country. THAT is the big problem.
But what is the BIGGER PROBLEM is that they committed an act of treason against the American people by standing up and telling the world that WE THE PEOPLE DID IT! When they and their agents were responsible for delivering those guns, and now THEY are responsible for those many deaths.

But they won’t, because they are afraid they’ll lose their foreign aid dollars. But there is no excuse for WE THE PEOPLE not to nail them!

I'm sure the ATF knew they weren't really contributing significantly to the gun supply in Mexico. The reporter may know that too, but I think it's unlikely they did enough research to know that before they wrote the article. While the article finds fault with the ATF, it's giving them exactly the kind of propaganda value they wanted out of the operation.

The ATF sales are a drop in the bucket, but they went almost all no doubt to the drug organizations. They were not just delivering to Mexico, they were arming the villains in mexico.
The Obama administration has innocent blood on their hands.
