Frontline: Priests Molested “Nearly 80% Of The Town’s Children”
The New Civil Rights Movement.com ^ | 4/19/11 | David Badash

Posted on 04/19/2011 7:42:19 PM PDT by Dr. Scarpetta

Frontline’s next exposé focuses on the “decades of abuse of Native Americans by priests and other church workers in Alaska,” and in one particular town they find, “nearly 80% of the town’s children were molested” by Catholic priests.

As we reported on this story just a few weeks ago, the Roman Catholic Church, as part of ongoing lawsuits, will make payments to approximately 700 male and female sexual and psychological abuse, molestation, and rape victims who were living in Alaska Native villages and Indian reservations from Montana to Washington, Idaho and Oregon, and who were “sexually or psychologically abused as children by Jesuit missionaries in those states in the 1940s through the 1990s,” according to a statement by attorneys.

The latest agreement will financially compensate 524 victims with $166.1 million in cases including accusations against 140 Jesuit priests, brothers, and nuns from the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus, in the Pacific Northwest. Only $48 million will come from the Catholic Church, the remainder will be paid by its insurance companies.

None of the Jesuit priests are being charged with any crime related to this abuse, rape, and molestation settlement.

Posting this type of thread during Holy Week showed where you people come from.

First of all, I didn't post it.

Second, I doubt that the response would be any different REGARDLESS of when it was posted.

Finally, if you claim to be a member of the Body of Christ, as I do, you would join in condemning the real criminals - and they are NOT people who expose evil.

P.S. Has it ever occurred to you that the pederast priests COUNT ON the reverence they receive in order to continue their crimes unopposed?

Then I would say that Martin Luther would be wrong. Mary, just like the rest of us, was not without sin. Fortunately she was also not without a Savior who’s Grace could cover her sins just as His Grace covers all of our sins as well.

I could be mistken, but I just read you say, “I don’t feel a bit sorry for them as they refuse to even engage in debate.”. Is the name calling what you would describe as “engaging in debate”? When will we know that is what you are doing? How will we know the difference?

Funny that they don’t trust the owner of the website and the mods modding it, but trust priests who molest children and defend them.

Can you name anyone here who defends priest who molest children or are you just pulling stuff out of your butt again?

as they refuse to even engage in debate. It’s hate and more hate, 24/7.

The RC talking points for the week are: dialogue and debate.

The RC advice is: Push the hate whenever you can and exaggerate!

MSM - say it enough and it will become fact. Like transubstantiation - if we say it's there, it just is.

There is no Vicar of Christ except in Romes teachings....and why I and others would never subvert Christ’s rightful place over us for that of any man making that claim other than Christ. Nor would He have us do so. He is either Lord of all or nothing at all.

Well said. I was just thinking about this very point today. A "cult" is sometimes described as a religious group living under the guidance of an authoritarian leader. How well that defines the way many Roman Catholics think about their religion. It is whatever the "Pope" - at the time - says to believe, they must believe it. No matter if what he says is counter to Holy Scripture, he is still to be obeyed. I recall a statement made to the effect that even if the Pope said that Jesus was not the Christ, he was still to be obeyed. That, to me, smacks of cultism. That is why God gave us his Holy words (the Bible) and the indwelling Holy Spirit, to lead us into all truth. Like you said, I will stick with Jesus over ANY man.

I am a Catholic Christian of the "12 stations of the White hanky" as Quix would Quote. Which I intend to do friday 12 stations of the cross. He has sardonic sense of humour in his writings. I believe this can confuse some. Do not take it personally.

I believe He has a healthy body, mind and soul. He is a Christian who does not agree with certain Catholic doctrine but has a love for Catholics. He just does not see what we believe in certain Catholic doctrine. He cares alot so he puts himself out there to warn. No matter how it can be interpreted wrongly. I have private messaged him often. I found him a very unique caring person. As the bible shows who is a Christian in 1 John 4 . I believe he is such caring Christian. I hope this can help.

I recall that, also. I guess it was so unbelievable, it stuck with us. And, I agree, that is why God gave us His Word, He already knows the end from the beginning and He knew His Word would be distorted and, also, He knew what was in man.

What a whiny little girl.

Is that catholic speak when describing a RC bishop in a dress when he/she finds out there is another scandal to cover up?

Thank you for the response. I fully agree that the gross sins committed by clergy are too often winked at. I am against any pastor who is found guilty of public and willful gross sin being reinstated into a position of overseer or elder within a congregation. Certainly there is forgiveness upon repentance and restoration into the fellowship of believers, but the consequences of such sin must be full relinquishment of pastoral positions of authority.

There IS a price of sin and we all understand that Jesus paid the penalty we all deserved by his death and resurrection for us. He offers us eternal life by grace through faith. We then walk in newness of life - we are changed, a new creation in Christ. That does not mean, of course, that we never sin. As long as we remain in our flesh, we will wrestle against that old nature. The longer we walk with the Lord in faith and obedience, the stronger our faith becomes and the greater our maturity in dealing with temptation. But people who have been given leadership over a congregation must accept that there has to be a trust factor. Gross sexual sin is NOT a minor issue. It is something that starts in the mind as a thought and the thought is allowed to fester until it becomes an action and then the action is allowed to become a habit. Sin must never be allowed that kind of hold on us and it is through the power of Christ that we have been freed from the bondage of sin. There is just NO excuse for such things to ever be named among the church of Christ - least of all its leaders. The three greatest temptations Satan imposes on ministers of Christ is (1) Message (the gospel); (2) Money (filthy lucre) and (3) Maidens (sexual sin). I can't think of one well known minister who has fallen from renown that was not hit by at least one of these. Men and women of God MUST be on guard against these exact things.

Just like the Bereans, we should always test the words of men against the one authority we have been given - the Word of God - and we must NEVER forget that man is fallible. We must never be caught up in cult behavior where a man or a group of men become the authority. There are certainly men of God who are Spirit lead and guided and God has given the church (us) gifts of pastors, teachers, evangelists, etc. for our edification. We should never relinquish, however, our personal relationship with the Lord nurtured by prayer, Bible study and fellowship with other Christians. I am grateful for the FRellowship I get on this site. It is a blessing to me.

that is why God gave us His Word, He already knows the end from the beginning and He knew His Word would be distorted and, also, He knew what was in man.

Good point. In Scripture we see where before the life and teachings of Jesus were even written down, people started distorting what Jesus said. For example:

John 21:22-24 (New King James Version)

22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” 23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?” 24 This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

So John and the other writers wrote under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit to make sure what Jesus said - all that Jesus said that he wanted written down - was so written. That is why we can depend on its authority and not on hearsay or legends or myths. That is how God did it!

Well, post on some other forum more to your liking then. Sheesh!

Look, we just happen to be blessed with the very best Religion Moderator in the entire world. Those who cannot live with the way RM runs this forum are more than welcome to take their posts elsewhere. We’re not going to change a thing. And I’m not going to dance on egg shells around the whiners. You can either like it or lump it!!

Excellent Scripture!

God did not leave anything to chance, He knew what was to come and prepared us for it in His Word. And that Scripture shows that. Thank you!!

why are they here on this conservative site?

How dare you. So you would vote for Obama over Catholics Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Rick Santorum.

Despicable.
